 State Farm has assessed my CRD at a total loss, but the offer will not buy me another one. My car was overrun by water in Coal Creek Canyon Colorado on Sept. 11. The road is still gone, but I was able to hike down to my abandoned car, pull the intake to intercooler hose, dump out the water, and the engine fired up. I let the turbo blow out the intake and intercooler, replaced the hose, and drove it home. DOT tried to push the car off the road before I got down there, and crushed the tail gate and blew out the rear window. The car smells like mildew from being rained on for 4 days, and since so much water went into the turbo, I'm sure it will go, but I think the car can be repair for less than the total value.

If anyone has a nice CRD for sale, send them my way.

Yeah flood vehicles are almost always a complete loss(like 99.9% of the time),to many issues pop up down the road.

Depending on what and how you talk to them, they may let you keep it and pay something less for you to fix it. Its worth to try at least. Your title though may be changes to salvage, but I think that depends on the state...

Sorry to hear about your "loss". It's hard to get insurance companies to change their minds on stuff like that. I had an integra years ago that had water come up over the front of the hood on the low side of the road when a hurricane blew through. It hydrolocked the engine briefly and I stalled out, but I pulled over (out of the gushing water), let it sit, then started it back up. Other than a knocking sound it drove the same and I went about my business. When I took it to a shop to evaluate the engine repair for whatever likely got bent, they suggested I call my insurance. 2 days later, it was totaled and I had a check for about $1500 more than blue-book.

Unless you're REALLY attached to this particular vehicle, you may be better off just negotiating to a better deal on the total loss considering that it runs, the engine appears sound, etc. That WILL affect how much they can sell the salvage for, so stick do your guns. There are a lot of mid-milage CRDs on the resale market right now and you might just end up coming out ahead if you look for a good deal.

Also, if you're a project kind of person, it's possible you can take the total loss claim, get paid out, and offer to buy the totalled vehicle back from them for parts. You wouldn't want to keep it as a daily driver with that title, but there's probably a decent market for running VM2.8s with complete engine control and drive train in the builder market.

Remind them to be the "Good Neighbor" like they advertise. Argue with them until your blue in the face to get you an equal vehicle. They are just trying to save their company money on payouts. They know its worth more. Don't give in to just what they say, as its not all they can do.

might try some negotiating for a better price - but take the money.

in about 6 months every electrical connection, every wire will be corroded with intermittant shorts.

can't really troubleshoot - unless you want to rewire it.

There are, indeed. At 66k miles, I figure I got to mine in time to do the preventative mods. . . GDE tune and the rest. I would not buy a 'mid-mileage' CRD today that has been running stock all this time. Low mileage in the ads around here is 84k. . . most are above 100k miles. I consider either to be a high risk gamble.

Just my two cents

I'd rather get an engine with 110k knowing the timing belt and oil changes had been done than one that had 66k and was underwater....

Dent - Sorry to hear about your CRD. I saw it sitting there stranded in the east bound lane of 72 for several days just below the old Buyers Sellers Real Estate Office while venturing down there with CCCVFD and it had no damage at that time. When did you finally get down the canyon to retrieve it? Also I would file a claim with FEMA as they may help cover some of the loss.

Let me know if you need any help with it as I also have an 06 CRD and live in Coal Creek Canyon.
