I'm looking at doing a clevis lift but want to confirm that 3/8" is the maximum safe height on my CRD with stock shocks. I had an inspiration after reading so many reports of people forgoing the conduit nuts and just raising and reclamping the clevis's that I thought I could just use hose clamps to ensure I get the same amount of lift on both sides. Unfortunately the hose clamps are 1/2" wide, not 3/8" as my guestimating memory had led me to believe they would be.

I reasoned that since they shouldn't be shouldering any weight, hose clamps would be a good spacer and if one of them started to get crushed, I'd know my clevis was slipping.

Anyone ever do this much clevis lift? Is it bordering on unstable when you get to that range?

Did you hear about the guy who was hooked on brake fluid?
He swears he can stop any time.

DON'T DO IT! You really need the OME/ARB Springs. It will ride so much better, and of course give you a lot more height. I can understand wanting to be on a budget, but I that 1" lift will BARELY help so I personally don't think it is worth the labor (even if you do it yourself!)

Well, I tried the clevis lift. It's simple and quick once you've done the first one, it's even faster. I settled for 3/8" after discovering there isn't really much of a ridge for the hose clamp to sit into.

I'll take it in for alignment this week and make sure it's alright. For now it tracks straight down the road, no pulling to either side on braking or acceleration.

I'll do the OME lift eventually, but today's lift was just so I could go across Mana road without hitting every rock that I'm sure I'm gonna miss!

Where you able to pry it up without removing the coil-over assembly all the way? Glad it wasn't a pain!

Yes, just put the bolt in from the opposite side to spread the clevis and then slid it up while it was on the vehicle lift at work.

I spaced my clevis lift to 7/8 in. Just wanted to get back the 7/8 so it would sit level. No problems after 35k miles. Yes, realignment is necessary.
