Hi all .....having a problem still with a skipping speedo, especially at lower speeds...normally between 0-40ish...it just skips a few mph and then finally smooths out a bit about 45 ish....but not completely. I have done the speedo "dance" test, but that hasn't helped. My question is, anybody have this problem before? Do our KK's have a speedo cable that maybe is going bad? Im really stumped on this one, I'd like to try and figure it out myself with the devil dealer stealing all my hard earned $$$

Sorry to say there is no "cable" per se. It is electronically controlled.
The PCM continually monitors the vehicle speed pulse information received from the wheel speed sensors, then sends the proper messages to the Electro Mechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) (also known as the Cab Compartment Node/CCN).
For proper diagnosis of the wheel speed sensors, the PCM, the EMIC, the CAN data bus or the electronic communication related to odometer/trip odometer operation a diagnostic scan tool is required.

Does that mean my only option is the dealer?

Does anyone know where the speed sensor's are located? If anyone has a diagram or pic...that would be priceless. I would like to attempt to figure this out myself, atleast try too...

There is an input speed sensor and an output speed sensor located on the left side of the transmission case

Edit (More info): The Input Speed Sensor provides information on how fast the input shaft is rotating. As the teeth of the input clutch hub pass by the sensor coil, an AC voltage is generated and sent to the TCM. The TCM interprets this information as input shaft rpm.

The Output Speed Sensor generates an AC signal in a similar fashion, though its coil is excited by rotation of the rear planetary carrier lugs. The TCM interprets this information as output shaft rpm.

The TCM compares the input and output speed signals to determine the following:

Transmission gear ratio
Speed ratio error detection
CVI calculation
The TCM also compares the input speed signal and the engine speed signal to determine the following:

Torque converter clutch slippage
Torque converter element speed ratio

Skip any sensors on the trans, they have nothing to do with the speedo.

You have 4 ABS sensors, one on each wheel, which tells the PCM how fast your going then tells the IC what to display.Just follow the wires to each wheel to find the ABS sensors.

Okay, so with advice from others here I changed out my really worn plugs for new NGK coppers...thinking this may help my speedo problem. It has made the jeep run a bit smoother...but the speedo still stutters, especially when it's cold. How would I go about telling which/if any speed sensor is bad?

Any other ideas on what could cause this?
