Perhaps but right now if you run the build and price widget on the Jeep site for a GC Limited with just the EcoDiesel option and what that "sticks" you with:
1.4X2 = $41,290 - adds nothing but $4,500 EcoDiesel price to base price (e.g. no extra fluff)
2.4X4 = $46,290 - includes ca. $2,000 premium for 4X4 plus some Luxury Group II

The Limited is the lowest model with the diesel option. Obviously pricing would be better if it was available on the LaredoE or Laredo but that does not appear to be the case right now.

For what it's worth in 2005 the Liberty cost less than the GC, don't have a clue how much but running a simple online inflation calculator says $30,000 in 2005 would adjust to $35,000 in 2012 for whatever that's worth. My only point is $X on a different model in 05/06 is not a good comparison to $Y on a completely different model with a substantially different engine in late 2013. Not saying the above prices are "good".

Not to mention the above prices are "list".

Good points. We'll see if dealers will "deal" with the GC - most were hesitant to cut the price on the Liberty way back when, though when you went for the door the story changed.

Word on the street is that they are dealing with a vibration under certain conditions, hence the delay.

I built one online. Im not interested in a Jeep that costs 58,000. I want a diesel Jeep that people can afford.

I drove a couple of 2014 Cherokees this week, a TrailHawk 3.2 and a Limited 2.4 2wd.
I really liked the TrailHawk and look forward to one with diesel power.

I dont think there is any plan for a diesel Cherokee in the US yet.

I hope that changes and it is added to the US product line. Until then, I plan to keep my Liberty CRD for a long time. Very happy with it :D
