So, I just had my glow plugs replaced by express oil change and finally got my check engine light off. After driving about 25 miles, my CEL appeared again and my scanner is showed code "P0090". I notice no driveablility issues when the code appears. After doing some searching here, I have found that P0090 means "Fuel metering solenoid – open circuit Wiring open circuit, fuel metering solenoid, ECM" however I can't find much information on what that means. Can anyone offer up any advice? BTW, I changed the fuel filter this morning just in case.

I think its located at the end of fuel rail, right in front of the windshield. But check with fsm just to make sure.

Try jiggling the wires first, and make sure the plug is all way in the sensor before replacing it.

So, you had an express oil change place jiggering with electrical parts near the electrical part that your code describes? Sounds like a "oops, I unplugged the wrong thing" scenario. Check all your plugs and make sure everything is clean and seated properly before you go replacing sensors. Also, did you check for air in the head? They might have taken the fuel head out to work on things and not known/done a bleed.

Thanks guys for the input. I'm starting to lean towards a ECM problem. Yesterday, P0090 disappeared and was replaced by P0107, P0102, and P0299. These codes just seem to come and go putting the jeep in limp mode occasionally. I was told by a dealer tech that my ECM needed to be replaced because it was "missing programming", but I disregarded his input because I thought the jeep wouldn't run if the computer was bad. Anyone want a good deal on a CRD that needs a little work? I'm in central Alabama.

You have some entity called "express oil change" replace your glow plugs and soon after have CEL issues and some dealer tech says the ECM is "missing programming" apparently without looking at anything. I'd speculate the tech doesn't have a clue what he is talking about and strongly second dgeist's comments. You need to unplug/replug (ideally with application of some dielectric grease) any plugs the folks that did your glow plugs might have messed with including the MAF sensor on the air filter box and the MAP sensor.

Those codes, if valid and not related to not fully seated plugs, suggest MAF/MAP/boost pressure solenoid issues or maybe a collapsed vacuum line where the line runs along the firewall from the vacuum tower just back of the air filter box. They do not suggest anything resembling a bad ECM.

P0090 is for the MPROP on back side of fuel pump. It is a pain to get to, need to remove engine cover and maybe the CAC hose on drivers side. Yours either has bad wiring or came disconnected. Hopefully the latter.

kg4ygb, Okay I do not know what year yours is so I am giving info based on my 05 2.8 CRD. First the glow plugs are accessed from under the intake manifold and the cac hose, flow meter and elbow usually are removed to access the #3 glow plug (not the normal job for a quick oil change establishment). The Fuel Quantity Solenoid is located on the upper engine side of the fuel pump on the forward driver's side of the engine and thus replacing the glow plugs would cause someone to be messing with the wires in that area. The 107, 101 and 102 codes all deal with the MAF sensor on top of the air filter housing. I just got both the 101 and 102 codes after cleaning the MAF sensor and then unplugging it. The MAF Sensor should be cleaned using the appropriate MAF cleaner, as oil such as K&N filter oil or from other source can cause running problems and cleaning with Brake or Carb Cleaner may or may not cause other issues or damage depending on who you speak with.

The boost pressure / air temp sensor, commonly referred to as the MAP sensor is located on top of the intake again on the drivers side of the engine and can cause a P0299 code. I would start by cleaning those censors, unplugging and plugging in the effected connectors and clear the codes to see if they return. I got some codes after my cleaning and test drive that did not return after the initial test drive when they were cleared. After you do all that kick the front left tire real hard and have 10 friends help you pick it up and shake it even harder and keep your fingers crosssed!!! :)
