Has anyone used Amsoil HDD-3000 5W30 in your CRD yet? I was thinking about it for it's great diesel properties, but it doesn't meet the 0W40/5W40 or the MS 10725 ratings. Any ideas? I have read about people using the Amsoil Euro 5W40, maybe I will just go with the Mobile Delvac1. Thanks for any help.

That alone is enough reason not to use it.......DC could make it difficult to uphold a warranty claim IF there was a problem.

I'd stick with 0W40 Mobil 1 or better yet 5W40 Shell Rotella-T Full Synthetic.

Why?? I am running the 5-40 Amsoil Euro and it's great. I am an Amsoil nut and have been a user and believer in them since 1985. The Amsoil Euro has better specs than Mobil or Rotella.

Amsoil Euro 5W40 tests better than any other diesel oil on the market. It is The oil to use in a CRD.

AMSOIL European Car Formula Synthetic 5W-40 Motor Oil (AFL) is specially formulated for the lubrication needs of modern European gasoline and diesel cars and light trucks. Formulated with advanced AMSOIL synthetic base stocks, premium additives and a 5W-40 viscosity rating, AMSOIL AFL is the preferred oil for virtually all European automobiles, especially turbo charged models. It is the only oil in North America to be recommended for the latest specifications of all three major European automakers - Volkswagen (Audi), BMW and Mercedes-Benz and the latest North American API specifications. AMSOIL AFL is highly versatile for multiple applications.

AMSOIL, the leader in automotive synthetic lubrication, produced the world's first API qualified synthetic motor oil in 1972. Trust the extensive experience of AMSOIL "The First in Synthetics®" to do the best job protecting your engine.

Maximum Engine Protection
AMSOIL Synthetic European Car Formula contains high quality anti-wear additives and surpasses the tough ACEA oil specifications for high temperature/high shear viscosity. It provides outstanding protection in high RPM, hot running engines and delivers dependable long-term performance for the extended drain intervals set by European automakers.

Superior Engine Cleanliness
The excellent oxidation stability, heat resistance and detergency properties of AMSOIL Synthetic European Car Formula keep engines clean. It is specially designed to prevent sludge and varnish deposits for reduced oil consumption, extended engine life and maximum overall performance.

Minimizes Exhaust Emissions
AMSOIL European Car Formula is designed for newer vehicle emission control systems. It meets current industry and vehicle manufacturer requirements for long life protection of gasoline vehicle catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters (DPF).

All Season Performance
The broad 5W-40 viscosity rating, low volatility (burn-off) and wax free nature of AMSOIL Synthetic European Car Formula make it excellent for hot and cold temperatures. Engine wear is reduced, oil thickening is controlled and vehicles start easier in cold temperatures.

APPLICATION
AMSOIL Synthetic European Car Formula is formulated to surpass the most demanding European specifications. It is recommended for European and North American gasoline or diesel vehicles requiring any of the following worldwide specifications:

API SM/CF
ACEA C3-04
ACEA A3/B3-04
ACEA A3/B4-04
BMW LL-04
Mercedes Benz 229.31, 229.51
Porsche
Saab
Volvo
VW 502.00, 505.00, 505.01
MS-10725
Service Life
Recommended for the extended drain intervals established by the vehicle manufacturer or extend based on oil analysis. Change oil filter at time of oil change.

Well, as a matter of personal preference, and from what I've learned in my current line of work, if I don't see at least a CI-4 API rating somewhere on that bottle, it ain't going in my engine.

As a side note, I've seen where they finalized the standards for EPA '07 engine oil and given it an official code.

API code for '07 Engine Oil - CJ !!!!!

Sounds like just the oil for a Jeep diesel.

Well after some more research, I have ordered a case of Amsoil 5W40 AFL Euro oil. I am getting excited to change it now to see if it makes any difference on the CCV blow-by. Thanks for all the replys and tips!! :):)
P.S. what is everyone torqueing their drain plugs to? I have heard 37 ft.lbs., the Amsoil site says 20 ft.lbs. Maybe I will try 30 and see how it feels.

I use 20# or less. It's not a problem. Replaced the factory oil at 650 mi. Just going over 2000 mi. everything looks great.

The Fumoto Drain Valve install would a great way to not have to hassle with the drain plug.

FSM states 37 flb's for the torque on the drain plug, but 20 should be no problem either. Be advised do not cross thread the plug or you really will have a problem.

Talk to any tech in a shop(gas or diesel) and he'll tell you the definition oil pan plug tight. It's the point when your brain tells your arm to stop tightening. Sorry- I don't mean to offend but I just couldn't resist. Go ahead and torque your plugs, nothing wrong with that.

I tighten my drain plug until it starts to strip the threads and then I back off a 1/4 turn.

I am not offended. :D I think it is funny as all get out. :P If you are not sure you know that your brain knows when to tell you to stop tightening then use a torque wrench until you have developed a feel for what the proper amount of torque is for the size bolt/nut/plug you are torqing. :?

Why would I want to talk to a gas or diesel tech??

Hehehehe I thought this was funny reading. Guys I could use good humor like this more often.

Ok Marauderer, there is one other thing I want to know. What's this MP8 waiting for installation?

MP8 is...................................... the TS Performance Power Module/box.

muttermutter mumblemumble.

OldNavy I'm  that with all of your knowledge you didn't know that. Sheesh! Man your losing it! :?

Anyway I don't want to install it until I get the tranny done as a minimum. Would also like to get the Fuel Filter and the CCV ( but maybe I will run the hose and wait for yours) installed also before I boost the power. :)

I don't or haven't really been keeping up with chipping because the Jeep is the other half's. She don't need anything to make it go faster, just something to protect it from the curb jumps and parking lot dings.

Will vavoline 15-40 in the blue bottle work in our CRD? The bottle says it is CI-4 plus rated.

Just a curiosity question. If AMSOIL is so great, why don't they submit their oil to API testing? All we have is their word, no "independent" test. Sorry, but I don't trust anyone in the oil business.
