You can get the 3.0L CRD with the 2014 RAM in the Tradesman model. You HAVE to select the 8' bed though.

You can get the Tradesman 4x2 for $28,000, and the 4x4 Tradesman for $32,000.

Interesting...

And is that a VM?

Good cause we know how to work on them, bad cause we know how fragile they are.

Banks has cranked the 3.0L VM up to 600Hp and it holds together well with their ECM tune, I can't speak for any other tunes.
The weak point of the 3.0L VM is the CP-4X High Pressure Pump. Our 2.8L VM has the much stronger CP-3.

VW has had a bunch of problems with the CP-4 and so has Ford on their 6.7L, they both blame the problem on Fuel Contamination so they can void the warranty, not because of the Aluminum body. There is a word on the street that Bosch is starting to stand behind the CP-4X in VW applications, if true, Ford will have Bosch quickly follow suit or their Lawyers will have heated conversations with Bosch. As far as I am concerned, the big shot at Bosch who pushed through the Bean Counter Engineering CP-4X through the Bosch Engineering Department should have to go spend some long time with those who have romantic thoughts about goats (imprisoned Terrorists).
If you buy a 3.0L VM or other Diesel with a CP-4X, keep every receipt for every fuel up, your Lawyer will appreciate it.

Correction: Banks "claims" that the engine can "handle" 600hp but never has it been tested anywhere close to that. I am only aware that the engine has been near 300-320hp just a few times (but not at Banks).

BTW, the pump is the CP4.2 that's similar to the Ford one but with a different stroke (hence different max flow rate).
The VW pump with the most issues is the CP4.1 (single plunger) on the L4 engine.

Not going to stick up for the CP-4.1 & CP-4.2?
Or are the dealers going to install Vending Machines to sell them? :-)r :ROTFL:

You couldn't PAY me to get another VM engine... And with how many people on the TDIclub are squawking about the fuel pump failures that VW isn't doing anything about...

I think I'll stay with the older proven technology, thanks. I'd rather spend twice as much for a SOLID early-00's Ford diesel or 80s-90s Merc diesel or early 00's VW that I am driving currently. Solid proven designs that can be fixed by a Bosch shop for less than the cost of a new car, and aren't picky about fuel quality that can't be controlled by the owner.

Heck, the 80s-90s Mercedes diesels that I mentioned could practically be run on oily SAND and they would keep going. Dang things are indestructible, at least mechanically.

Get on Craigslist, you can probably get a Mercedes 300sd (comes with the 5 cyl om 617 3litter turbo diesel), pretty cheap. Swap a manual 5 or 6 speed (4auto at 75 gets you close to 3000 rpm) and you have a car for life. Vacuum egr = no egr, NO EFFIN' COMPUTER, Even the turbo is fully serviceable by an enthusiast mechanic with few wrenches, lol.

A true beauty from 80s, when Mercedes used to build great cars:

ah..the overbuilt 5 cylinder Mercedes..
thanks epa for killing a great running and lasting engine..
thanks for VM crap engines..instead of solid built mercedes or cummins..
cummins used to make a smaller 4liter engine that would be perfect in the 1500 pickup.
but no..the EPA doesn't approve..

oh well..I guess I have to keep my Jeep running..some how..and my 5.9 cummins running
for another 20+years..I more worried about the jeep than the cummins..at 20k per year that only another 400k miles
and its got 244K at the moment..just getting broken in..;)

I hear you... all this global warming nonsense and carbon tax makes some people rich and that's about it... Are you referring to 4BT Cummins? That is indeed a tough 4 banger, I wanted one for my Cherokee but the engine is too heavy for it, lol, the Mercedes om617 is a much better fit.

Hey... Overbuilt is just-about-built-properly for me. Anything worth engineering is worth over-engineering.

I'm actually looking at motorhomes right now, and it seems that my choices are going to be in the diesel-powered segment. I feel bad because the motor probably isn't going to collect that many miles from me, and they are coming with Cummins or Cat engines! If the engine in my current RV ever goes (I'm keeping it for rental income) then I think it might be a great candidate for a 6BT to replace the 454 it has now. Then again, that Chevy is a new engine and only has about 50k on it either.

The bigger they are, the longer they last?

yes the 4bt..is one tough engine..

I would suggest staying with Cummins in a motorhome..My has had 2 motor homes with cummins..
my uncle has one with a cat..the cummies just seems to run better..but cat has a DPF setup..

neither of my dads motor homes had the DPF..

I only said over built..because most people never wore out the engine.. and no major problems

These would be older than 2005... No DPF to speak of on either powerplant.

As for the 4BT or 6BT... I know they are tough engines, but I don't think the 4BT would be strong enough for the RV. It doesn't have an overdrive and spins at about 3000 at 60mph, with a super short 4.56 rear end. The whole RV weighs in around 6 tons, 7 at the most. With the current way I have the carburetor leaned out, it runs perfectly at stoich at highway speeds... But it was NOT a happy RV when pulling my 7,000 lb enclosed box trailer through Virginia. Even on mild hills, I was losing speed badly. I would have had to re-jet the carb to increase the fueling, while on flat land it was running fine - only lost about 2mpg hauling that big brick. Normally that RV gets around 8mpg with the generator running (1gal per hour when I had it) and I could get up to 10mpg drafting behind a semi. Stock was only 6mpg. I've made a lot of upgrades.

I fully expect to be blown away by these new ones, the 5 ton tow rating is an impressive number just to start with.

Geordi, it's a lot of work and money, but I heard of people pushing 400 horses from a 4bt. And about 600 lbs/ft. Not sure how long will last, but that involves custom turbo, injection and more than likely other customizations. Wonder how much you can push a 6bt for...

The power output at that level must be drastically reducing the lifespan for the engine... That isn't my goal at all. It is all just a pipe dream, this RV has a new engine with barely 50k miles on it, the chassis itself is somewhere around 200k miles, and has driven a giant 1 mile in the last 4 years. 5 years ago, I drove it to the middle of Virginia from Savannah, then 9 months later I drove it back. Before that... It drove out to Las Vegas from South Florida in 2005, and back to S.Fl and then to Savannah in 2006. Somewhere around 5,000 miles in 8 years. I don't think this motor is going to ever wear out.

the 4bt was used in delivery trucks..so it should handle the RV. maybe just a little small.
the 6bt. you'd want to regear the rear end..and it would handle it with any problems.
My has the 6bt(300hp) in his RV. which I think is a 38footer

6bt can be pushed a long way from stock..some are pushing 700-1000hp..

given time and money I would like to convert my gas, 1500 pickup, to use the 4bt engine.
