What is all your thought on these new up and comming axles... qouted from RR'site

BIG NEWS!!!

Due out in Mid to Late 2006, our new CV axles. While on the surface this may not sound like a big deal, but its going to revolutionize the Liberty offroad market. The reason you don't find lifts over 2.5" on the aftermarket is that anything taller, binds the CV front axles and destroys them. There is one system out there that is taller, but to install it, you have to completely remove your engine and transmission from the vehicle, mount a whole new subframe crossmember system, then re-install your engine/drivetrain. The end result is that you still have to lower the front differential so that there's not more than 2.5" of lift on the axle. Dropping this center section means you lose all the lift you've just paid thousands to buy and install. Plus.... in case you missed it, removing your entire drivetrain is a HUGE pain. So, our new axles will allow lifts of an estimated 4-6", no dropping of the center axle section, no remounting your engine/drivetrain, it will make extreme height lifts on the Liberty easy. As we said.... this is going to revolutionize the Liberty world!!!

Well, I'll start off by stating that I have no experience with Rocky Road. From what I've heard/read about their other products I wouldn't touch any product of theirs, nor do business with them with a ten foot pole.

Their business acumen, especially as it relates to customer service and satisfaction is severely lacking. Some of the things I read on this board I wrote off as partiality or preference on the clubs behalf. The deal was sealed for me though when I read Rocky Road's feedback on ebay. A majority of posters on this board and all that negative feedback can't be wrong, with the nail in the coffin being Rock Road's unprofessional and immature response to negative feedback.

One bad word cancells out one hundred good ones.

Read their feedback here:

I wouldn't dismiss them altogether. Their OTT lift is a disaster, and they haven't figured out how to run a business, but their Combo lift is outstanding and very inexpensive, and they were building high-quality KJ toys before most Jeep vendors had ever seen a KJ.

I've been out to their shop in Heber, and it's a pretty chaotic scene. I have to believe that the poor customer service stems from that, and their inexperience, and the fact that they're just good ol' country boys. Not a lot of sophistication up there in Heber. And the air is thin, too. :)

I wouldn't mind being the first guinea pig for these CVs and report back on how well they work.

I have gotten 2 things from them. My rockfather 2 and tranny skid. I ordered the skid first then the lift. I got the lift in the mail first. When I called to figure out where the skid was they had no record of me even ordering it. I had to place the order all over again. They were never rude with me and I like the lift and skid so far. The responses they send to people on that ebay site were pretty unprofessional though.

I have no opinion either way, but what happen to me on my a-arm group buy, I can see happening to anyone who manufactures parts. (by the way five more sets went out five more do next week).

The problem I can see with the high angle CV joints, and I hope they can prove me wrong, is the fact that our bearings, now some cermic thingy (very tech. word ain't it) does not hold are shafts too tight (no comments you perv's) and the shafts can and most likely wobble in the differential.

Meaning, slide under your KJ and pull/push the shaft up and down and see the play. If the new CV joints are too stiff, as mine were (JE Reel HD shafts) I went through two bearings and two seals before the CV's "broke in". At a higher angle the presure on the CV joint will be greater causing it to ride on only one section of the bearing all the time, thus wearing out the end bearings or seals at an alarming rate. The angle of the shaft will apply differnt loading on the cv joint and than on the internal shaft.

If they were able to beat this problem, and got a set of boots that could take the constant grinding against itself, they have a winner.

Al

I agree with you on that. I read a couple of the replies to negative feedback... not a mature way to reply to such matters.

As I've had the RRO OTT kit on for a year so I'll voice my cheers and jeers.

First: My OTT kit is for sale on EBay : RRO OTT Kit /w Shocks

Second: I had no customer service issues. I had a couple pre sale questions, one post sale lift question, and then just a week go sent an email for the instructions (as I'm selling the lift and within 8 hours had the document emailed back to me).

The OTT kit works... Although I was one of the control arm knocking the strut spring "in about 1-3% of Liberty lifts" it still did it's job. My wife didn't like the handling characteristics, but to each is own.

I also had an ARB bumper shipped by RRO and had one small issue with tracking of the bumper and where it was shipping from; RRO vs direct from ARB. A quick call with ARB and RRO and things got straightened out.

In response to the comments on RRO's customer service, here's my experiances.

I've ordered and received the following from RRO; RockRails, IPF Back-up light and mounting kit, Garvin roof rack (along with brackets for 4 lights, Hi-Lift, and shovel), IPF off road lights, two spacer plates for the front end, and as soon as it came out, the Old Man Emu Suspension.

The only problems I had were as follow:
1) the back-up light bracket did not fit. I returned it, they rebuilt it to fit and repainted it, and returned it with no charge.
2) they sent, and charged me for 4 spacer plates when I only wanted 2. I returned the 2 extra, and they credited my credit card accordingly.

Most of the time, before ordering, I had questions. Each time, they were answered in a satisfactory manor by phone. When no one was there (mostly over the weekends), I left a message, and my calls were returned within a couple of days at most.

All in all, I have no problems with this outfitter.

My only problem with them is that they still list front 4.10 and 4.56 gears for the Liberty. They've known for a very long time that these do not work. My Jeep was on the lift for almost 3 weeks with the front diff taken apart while they kept sending different sets of gears to my mechanics. My average hold time to talk to them was over an hour on each of the dozen phone calls I had to place to them. We ended up pulling a diff out of a 4 cylinder with low miles since they refused to purchase the only gears that would fit it from the factory.

Sorry to hijack but a quick observation about the 4:10 gears. Since the 4cyl KJ's are so rare (not even sure if they are still available), the 3.73 diffs outnumber the 4:10's like 10,000 to 1, what would the rest of us do if we were suddenly able to fit large enough tires (larger lifts became available) to really require a gear change? There simply are not enough to go around.

You can buy the 4.10 gears for the front from a dealership, but they wanted $450 just for the front ring and pinion gears, with no rebuild kit when I talked to them.

I will not buy from them. I found in their web site where they said that the OTT kit was the best suspension kit for the kj. I emailed them (respectfully) and asked for their side of the OTT controversy. They did respond quickly and did not have any negative comments. Said that the OTT kit was not the best kit for the kj but did not try to really defend the OTT or even say anything good about it. Just tried to sell me the Rockfather kit.

I had told them exactly where I had found that OTT quote and the email came back saying that the quote must have been a type-o and if I would tell them where it was they would correct it. When I went back to the site it had been removed. If you have a problem just own up to it, whether in the web site or the OTT kit, and fix it. Don't beat around the bush. We are not stupid.

This was not a majorly big deal. If they will cover up over something so small, what will they do about big problems?

I thought I saw high angle CVs years ago. Even posted about them here on the original boards. Noone seemed to think they were a good idea. Can't really recall why - Think it came down to the fact you'd have to make several other mods to use them.

I've had nothing but good luck with RRO and Glenn. I've emailed questions on Friday night, not expecting an answer until Monday, but Glenn responded that same night. I've run the OTT lift for 3 years now with no problems. I've ordered from them 3-4 times. I won't do some of the things others have done with the KJ so I don't need as much protection. RRO has saved me alot of money while still protecting me for the things that I do. Some people forget that wheeling is different in different parts of the country.

I really don't get the post above from jp41kj: Says "I will not buy from them". Then says they responded quickly, did not defend a product that has not worked out for many, in fact they suggested a better product. They asked about the mistake on the web-site and they have corrected it. Not sure what was intended with "and did not have any negative comments". Anyway the process/experience sounded good to me yet the result is that they will not buy from them.

One of the biggest problems for any small company is that web sites can be hard/expensive to maintain. A lot of small companies setup web sites and then rarely update them. It is not unreasonable to have outdated info on web sites. This has changed as the technology has matured but many sites are setup on old technology and they would have to be redone to make them easier to maintain. An expensive proposition.

All in all there are alot of ppl that seem satisfied with RRO's customer service, but when you have an issue (ie the neg feedbacks on ebay) with a customer, you don't openly bash them whether or not they deserve it. Me personally I would rather go with a company that has had nothing but good things said about them and don't flame their customers for a misunderstanding. That right there is enough for me to say I will NEVER buy from them again. And the impression I get from the ebay feedback is they don't care if you do or not. I would much rather do give my hard earned money to a company that treats one side (phone in/ walk in) customers with different from the other side ( ebay/ internet). Just my 2 cents

When I had a Sammi, I used their SOA kit and had loved it. No issues at all with customer service, it was just like talking to a buddy when I called them up.

I think it's good they don't put up with crap from bad buyers (if you have ever sold on EBAY, you know what I mean!)
