new from florida, need help putting pic on avatar

User Control Panel>>Profile>>Edit Avatar

You'll need to find a place to host the picture, such as Photobucket.

ok I used photobucket and added the avatar but I cant see it im only seeing a box with an x in it? whats this caused by?

What's the size of the image?

There may also be a minimum number of posts to qualify to use one, though I'm not sure about that.
