My oil light just started coming on intermittently as well. First time it was when I backed into my driveway, and other times when I was at a stop light. It turns off if I rev the engine. Oil level is fine, half way between min and max.

X2...only when coasting, sitting at a light, etc. As soon as I gave her gas, the light went out...only to go "ding" and come on again a few seconds after letting off the gas.

Sensor.

Bad sensor. The sensor will be USELESS for telling you of an actual problem, because of its location right at the outlet of the pump and filter.

Change the sensor and don't worry about it. Also use the M1-301 filter and your oil change becomes 7 quarts exactly instead of the stupid off-number 6.4.

Search on my user name for the oil drain thread repair - I used a solid collar spark plug thread repair on mine, worked perfectly.

Well, on my second oil change at home as a CRD owner, it has been confirmed that my oil pan is thoroughly stripped. I guess it could barely handle the 37 ft/lbs when I tightened it before....I kinda had a feeling I was in for trouble. So, anyway, I picked up the M14X1.25 sparkplug repair kit (thanks, geordi!) and got started. It was stripped pretty bad, but I was able to make threads. I tested the insert in the repair kit, and it seemed like it was gripping okay....as long as the Loctite (actually Permatex Red) holds. I cleaned the crap out of the insert and threads on the oil pan using isoproply alcohol, quickly hit it with the blowdryer, applied the Permatex, and got it into place. And now I wait......crossing my fingers. If this doesn't work, I'm not sure what the next step will be. I'm worried that having it helicoiled and opening up to 18mm will not give me enough room for a good seal with the o-ring....if the helicoil is even successful. Wish me luck! Will keep you all posted...

Part of that kit, if it is the same solid-collar kit that I used, is a metal ram. The collar threads into the damaged / re-tapped threads with the diamond-threads as the last bit that threads into the oil pan. Then that metal ram comes into play. You insert that into the collar until the taper touches the collar, then rap gently-but-firmly with a mallet or wrench. This expands the diamond-threads into the oil pan, locking the collar in place. Will it hold to a lot of torque? No.

The oil pan IS NOT UNDER PRESSURE and it doesn't NEED a lot of torque. 37 ft-lbs? No wonder it stripped if the book calls for that much! Use the German torque spec: Gudentite. After I did the thread collar on mine, I used a simple plumbing O-ring found in Home Depot as the seal under the drain bolt. Worked perfectly, no more weeping.

Yes...I got the Sav-a-thread kit by Helicoil, and it has the teeth that lodge into the metal when you use the punch and mallet...a great kit. I will certainly hand tighten and use the rubber o-ring approach from now on....no more 37 ft./lbs as called for in the service manual. Well, tomorrow I'll get to see how she has set up. Thanks, geordi...btw, did you use threadlocker? I couldn't find your tech write-up on the forum, so i used a combination of the kit instructions, YouTube videos, advice from the old school auto parts store guy, and my intuition. We'll see how far that gets me....

Our master librarian Papaindigo probably has that link somewhere... I think he has just about every page on here linked somewhere in his files. :-)r

I didn't use any threadlocker, although I know some are big believers in the stuff, I just never have gotten into it. It might have something to do with the fact that anytime I might want to use it, the bottle has wandered off never to be seen again.
