Hi there, I just replaced my left and right intermediate shafts (EMPI). The ride is now much smoother and the steering more precise.
However, since I got this job done, I hear a very loud whining noise coming from the front every time I let the gas pedal go. It does it at any speed and getting louder at higher speed. The noise level is stronger in FullTime WD than in 2 WD, it does it only when I decelerate without applying the brakes.
Is there any of the parts in the front Dana to replace ?
Could the noise come from a mistake in mounting back the new front intermediate shafts ?
....thanks!

Ok, as the subject doesn't seem to raise waves of interest I will try to answer :D
The mechanic who mounted the axle told me that the original ones had ball bearings while the new ones have Teflon bearings and that this could be reason for the new noise....
Other that, replace the transmission ? :grim:
Or buy a set of beat audio helmet ?

My opinion.
First, Teflon instead of bearings on an axle  sounds like a run-around.
Second, that sounds more like your mechanic removed the front diff and didn't mesh the ring and pinion right when he put it back. Our libby uses some special shims in the front diff to achieve the right clearances between the helical gears, if they are not put together right those noises can come up and later turn into prematurely worn gears being a rather expensive repair if you don't do it yourself. I doubt is has anything to do with the tranny.
I would recommend you get dirty and check it yourself.

I'm sure that you weren't being ignored.
Sometimes we are scratching our heads trying to figure out what a person is trying to explain.
On a rare occasion we don't have an answer, thinking, "wow, that's a new one."
We all here, would like to learn the outcome of your problem.
Hope that one of our more experienced home mechanics can give some good advice.
