As others have pointed out plus:

Don't expect 24-27mpg in the winter in AK. These are over optimistic EVIC numbers. 19-22 stock or 21-24 tuned would be more typical.

169K on the timing belt is a sign of neglect. What other routine maintenance has he missed?

I'm still getting information, the CRD is about an hour away from me in Palmer. I'll post again when I get more information to feed you CRD'ers. I'm in the Maroon and black herculined KJ with NY plates

I heavily lack mechanical skills, however if it's short of doing a timing belt replacement I could probably fix most of the issues CRD's have. I have a decent (350pc set) of average handy man tools.

Well, it is 70% through what should have been it's second timing belt, and never had the first done. That tells me the owner knows nothing about it, and has not done any scheduled maintenance. I would run.

Alright I'll have to leave this one alone, there is one more CRD in town for sale but it's a sport - I'm looking for a limited with power heated leather seats and a sunroof

Probably the best.

Think about it this way. Even at 6000, you have over $1500 in timing belt job with water pump idlers and tensioner, plus I'm sure the thermostat, and glow plugs. And even at that, it certainly hasn't had the EGR shut off, so safe assumption there is plenty of soot in the valvetrain...$100 per valve in parts, minimum, plus gaskets, plus labor. You could have $10k into it in a hurry...and if you don't do those things, you may not get 5k miles out of it before needing more than that.

Yikes, moving on. I'll post back in here when I find the next locL CRD.

2k for a timing belt job? That's highway robbery. I had a shop do my timing belt and water pump. I bought all the parts needed including coolant and brand new oem thermostat and I got everything parts and shop labor for under 800.

That is the price we pay for the privilege of living in NY state.

Hey LS12...,

What shop did it for $800? Nampa is my home town. I wonder if I know them, or you for that matter
