I started doing my sas without really doing the sas. I started making everything I could that didn't require a full teardown. I made sub frame reinforcements from 1/8" thick stock for the arm mounts (plan to do the same with the track bar/steering box mount). I'm going to bolt them in place then weld them on. I also made a transmission crossmember that will bolt on to them as well. I decided to leave the arm mounts tacked so I can make fine adjustments when I do the teardown. You'd be surprised at how much can be done without tearing into it. I've made about the most progress I can without actually starting the build. The sub frame reinforcements might not be necesssry (this my first uni body build), but with the type of wheeling I'm planning after its finished it seemed smart to do. I'm still collecting parts for the axles, so I'm held up. I think I'm set on using an 8.8 from an explorer in the rear with a superior super 88 kit and are that I've been hoarding for years. I'm trying to use the most stuff that I already have as possible to keep down cost.

As far as welding 1/4" to the subframe, it really wouldn't be a bad thing. True the brackets won't bend and would damage the thin stock stuff, but that's possible with any thickness. At the least, I'd plate 8-12" of subframe where the mounts will be. I'm going a little overkill, but wanted to stiffen the chassis up as much as possible.

Are you going to put front control arm mounts on your crossmember or on your rails.

It's all one piece on mine. So the mounts will be welded to the reinforcement plates. I'm using RE radius style long arms with metalcloak df joints everywhere except where the upper attaches to the lower arm (poly).I cut about 4" from the frame mount ends of the arms to shorten them. With the wheelbase of the kj and only going to be on 35's, the longer arms would want to drag more. Rear will be a 4 link style setup with the same length arms as the front...unless I decide to leaf the rear

Cool! Seems like the RE has been the way to go in the front. Love the shortening front arm concept. I will definitely be adopting that to my build. Are you looking to save money by leading the rear or just want the leaf setup?

I already had the arms, which is the only reason I'm using them. I've always liked coil front/leaf rear setups, especially with a radius arm front. I made my front and rear lowers the same length, but have been toying with the idea of a leaf rear. I doubt I'll do it, and even if I did it will be later on down the road. It's so much easier to keep it coil in the rear since it's already setup from the factory.

I've seen some linked leaf setups.
Haha at that point why not coil spring it.

Those were more then likely traction bars to keep axle wrap down. With long flat leaves axle wrap tends to get bad

I don't remember there being traction bars but I could be wrong. This is the picture I remember lol I'll stop here it's getting pretty off topic. Image

That's 1/4 elliptical, and the upper links are serving as an anti wrap bar and axle centering. Also helps to keep the rear from "steering". Definitely a trail only setup

Thought it was pretty cool as I had never seen one before. Good to know what it is thought! So it isn't four linked? Just the upper arms?

I've seen some with lowers instead of uppers. The 1/4 elliptical is basically a leaf pack cut in half. The arms are for axle wrap and to keep the axle centered. The centering of the axle isn't really a big deal, as it won't be driven on the street, so a little side to side movement doesn't matter. The back end also tends to jack up as the axle rolls under throttle. It's more for down travel then up travel. We always call them poor man long arm setups
