I a going to look at my first CRD this weekend! I am very excited! Would some of the veterans here help me know what to look for and check before buying. It is a 2006 with 110,000 miles. Been in the South (Texas & Georgia) it's whole life. Thanks in advance!

The CRD noob guide in this forum would be a good place to start :2cents:

Read the Noob Guide. Get paperwork proving 100% positive that the timing belt has been done, even if it's part receipts.

Check the air intake hose behind the box, check the turbo impeller for play, ask about a GDE tune, engine shouldn't be smoking when running, no black or white smoke even when turbo is engaged.

Check the intercooler hoses for issues. Take pictures.

Do not even attempt to start it, pull off the radiator cap while the engine is cold, if there is any pressure you can figure on a head gasket, and maybe even a head.

Thanks everyone I have read the noob guide as well. How does one check the turbo impeller for play? If the Jeep is 100% stock is it to late to correct the issues and years of egr soot? If I get the GDE tune and provent or EHM, weeks101 elbow kit and clean everything well. Is there reason to believe I will have a realiable vehicle ready for years of use? Thanks everyone!

You will likely need a long flat blade screwdriver. Undo the air box to turbo clamp and slide hose off the front of the turbo (NOTE you may have to remove the upper end of the same hose and the passenger side CAC hose too). Grab the impeller and wiggle - should be no more that slight fore/aft play and barely perceptible side to side play. Check under side of air box to turbo hose for split just in front of turbo.

Reinstall hoses. Air box to turbo hose will touch or almost touch front of turbo at bottom end and at top end should touch or almost touch MAF sensor. Snug down clamps on plastic ports don't godzilla them.
