When I installed my Facet lift pump (under the hood) I put a cheap plastic $3 fuel filter in front of it. Mainly to protect the pump.
Yesterday my CRD stalled on me while driving. Knew right away it was the fuel filter.
It stalled two more times while driving to the nearest Napa that had a CRD fuel filter in stock. When I changed my filters I noticed the cheap pre-filter was full of sediment.
I probably could have gotten away with just changing the pre-filter but why risk it.

I have not installed my Facet pump but when I do I have a Moeller Universal Inline Glass filter which I will install as a prefilter. Easy to eyeball and worth the minor $s

I use one of those little glass body inline filters before my Facet pump, since they recommend it. Never had one clog though.
