I have a 2003 sport package which has the stock tires on it and they are on thier way out the door. I would like to possibly fit a good mud tire under there, mainly for getting back to my camp during hunting season (snow and mud). In the past I ran an BFG All terrains on my XJ and had decent luck, but a mud tire would be better for me. What would be the best tire for my needs on my stock liberty? Any input is much appreciated.

Well if you like BFGoodrich, they do make a mud-terrain...but so does Firestone, Kumho, Dunlop, Pro-Comp, and Yokohama...and almost all of Interco's (Super Swamper) product line-up is mud-terrain style tires, since that's what they're known for. Goodyear doesn't really have a mud tire...they have a "maximum traction" tire, that's the MT/R, which is proven on rocks but doesn't clean so well in sticky stuff.
Check this out:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=ORMT

I myself run into a lot of snow and mud on the trails that are most local to me, and often it's a combination of the two. The reviews off TireRack helped me choose the tire I did. The vast majority of "maximum-terrain" or mud-terrain tires I see around here in Colorado are BFGoodrich Mud-Terrains and Goodyear MT/Rs (I'm talking at least 80%). I have never been one to follow the pack, and I'm the only one I ever see locally running my tires. I love them.

the firestone destination MT's were one of my top choices... they were relitively cheap for a mud tire and looked agressive enough for my needs. My only questions are how are they in the snow, and hows the tread wear? I don't want something that will wear too fast...like a super swamper. And as long as they have a size that will fit under a stock 03 libby i will be happy.

Might wanna look at the MT/R's kind of a cross between an A/T and a Mud Tire. I've run them in the mud before and they really don't do half bad. I'm sure a mud tire with wider voids would have done better, but they didn't do as bad as some say they do. I was quite pleased.

Yes they make MT/R's that will fit your unlifted KJ,before my lift I ran 225/75R-16's.They are the same height as the stock 235/70R-16's just 10MM narrower.A thinner tire is better for mud any way unless you have alot of horsepower.

My Destination MTs do fine in the snow, on street and trail. They slip like any other tire in spots, but that's why I always drive super-slow when snow is on the street.
MT/Rs may do a better job cleaning than say, an AT tire, but if he's gonna be running into snow and mud, he needs self-cleaning tires. Mud and snow are a bad combo, and I've personally seen MT/Rs turn into donuts in both conditions alone and combined. It's all about how sticky your mud is, and the condition of the snow on the ground.
I have 10K on my tires, two rotations, and they still look like they have the same amount of tread they did new. I do some rock-climbing and that does tear and slice into the lugs occasionally, but none of the main tread lugs or the sidewall lugs have come of, despite one of two being sliced real bad. I love my tires!
