Ok so I went in to work today and it was working fine. I come home from work and now it doesn't work. No CEL or other dash lights, nothing out of the ordinary just the speedo doesn't work.

Now my question is could it be something with the tone ring? Or a speed sensor or something else?

I didn't notice any changes or anything of how it drove is it ok for me to leave it as is and use a gps as a speedo? I know other components rely on the speedo working properly so this option probably wouldn't be happening

Most common issue is a wheel speed sensor. Don't know about the 03 but it's likely similar to the 05 (not 06) CRD and has 2 front sensors and one rear sensor high on differential. The latter is prone to a break in the wire inside the insulation so you will need to check for continuity. IIRC usually kills cruise control too.

I don't have abs so I'm pretty sure I only have the diff mounted one, I'm gonna check on the condition of the connectors then go from there

I'm in the same boat. It may cause stalling under quick deceleration. Still hunting down my break or bad sensor

Can't seem to be able to unplug the sensor or take the sensor out of the diff. I know there is a bolt there and I removed. It free spins but will not come out

Ok so I got a P0500 code last night so now I do have a CEL for no speed sensor signal.

Does this narrow the problem down any?

And BTW the wiring is fine, the cable hasn't worn through the split loom

Dunno if this helps but I ripped mine off the diff and had to drill it to get a grip and yank it out. After replacing rear diff sensor I still had no speedo. After getting scanned it didn't throw a rear sensor but my output speed sensor. I think I nudged the tranny output sensor once to many times taking my front driveshaft out. Still hunting thought it looks fine appearance wise.

I've been looking on many different sites and every single one points to that sensor, so I'm going to order one off rockauto and try it out.

They are a tight fit in there, have o-rings on them to seal out the dirt/water etc of course. Trying just pulling straight up with vise grips etc if you're going to replace it.
Wiring may look good but can still have a break in there somewhere

Was this the rear sensor? I replaced my rear sensor and output sensor. It fixed my engine light but still no speedo and no abs. If it's the harness I'm going to be pissed.

Oh I have been short if cutting the wires outta the wiring tubing. Will be doing hat next probably. I have massive rear end vibs and will be replacing the whole rear end. With my rear end probs at the moment It may be just how jacked up my bearings and internals are.

Yes and the output sensor. Going to replace the wiring next if I can't find the problem specifically
