To anyone who has lifted their KJ and gone to a larger diameter tire... What, if any, programmer have you used to compensate for the speedo, transmission shifting, performance, etc.????

From what i have read in previous posts the speedo cannot be "reprogrammed" but must have a smaller gear inserted to compensate for tire size. Anyone make this gear yet??

Thats not right. The speedo can be reprogrammed but only the dealer can do it. Most of them are to stupid to know how to do it, but it can be done. The gear stuff was in old cars.

As a side note, I have not yet heard of anyone with a 2005 or 2006 that got their speedometer sucessfully recalibrated at the dealership.

I went from the stock 235/?? to firestone a/t 245/75 and accoring to my GPS and speedo it is 4 miles an hour dif.

To me that is not worth dealing with the dealer to get it recalibrated.

I have an 05.

Its not Mech at all. The rear diff has a sensor on it and its electronic the rest of the way.

True, it's only 5.2% different, so around 4mph at highway speeds. But not only the speedometer is wrong, also to odometer, trip meter, mpg calculations are wrong (if you have the EVIC).

Worse for those that go to a 265/75R16, that's around 9.3% off, so 80mph is actually closer to 90.

Will a 265/70-17 tire fit on the factory 17" wheels?

i ve got 245/75/16 mt/r
my speedo is dead on correct upto 62 mph after that its only off by 1 mph for every 5 mph, this is per gps.

we checked it by comparing gps to trip odometer and at 100 miles driven on odometer the gps said 102 so thats not that bad?
richey

dont know about that tire size because every company tire sizes are differnt overall diameter

The tires will fit on the rims but they might just be a little too tall to fit under your Jeep (31.6") after the lift. Look at a 245/70-17 (30.6")

Any DC/Jeep dealer can reprogram the speedo if you know the revolution/minute of the tire. It takes 15 min. to do but they might charge you 1 hour minimum.

The rest of the stuff (tranny/performace) is computer controlled and there is not much you can do to increase he performance.

31.6" too tall? Aren't you guys with the 2.5" lifts running 265/75-16's? As far as I can tell, the 265/70-17's are almost identical. Am I missing something here??

Most people with a lift run a 245/75-16 or a 31" tire. (30.6" actual) It is gives the least problems.

Yeah but what size were your original stock tires?.

If you go from a 235/70 R16 to a 245/75 R16 there is a 5.2% circumference difference. There is no way around that. Also don't forget...the Civilian GPS can be off a few % as well.

i believe stock goodyears were 225/75/16 i know they werent 235

but also i compaired before with stockers on gps and then with 245s and the difference is what i stated before, but also some people say 265/75 will fit but some 265 are under 31 inches just depends on tire company i guess?

im not contesting what you said about gps but stock compaired to new tires its not much for me,also the dealer could not reprogram the speedo for the 05

Ok...now that makes sense as using the Tire Size Calulator the 225/75R16 are taller than the 235/70 R16's. Because of this the mileage 'should' be off by only 4% for the 225/75 R16 vs 5.2% for the 235/70 R16...and therefore your factory speedometer setting was probably a little different as well.
