Just picked up a 05 Limited for my Step Dad today , great shape only 78,000 miles.Chrome wheels/chrome grill looks like Dieselenthusiasts same color
Two issues with it that I have to work on when I get it home in a few days .
One rear gate glass won't close unless you hit the open button on the key fob first, opens just fine no issues, just won't close
Two, speedometer stopped working when I was trying it out. I'm sure its just a loose wire, owner says she never had an issue with it before.
Both of these issues did get me a significant price reduction though

By the way he's been driving a 1994 S10 Blazer he bought new off the lot, its nothing but rust, more parts have fallen off than are left on it. If anyone is interested in what body that is left and great running gear let me know  For a guy 86 he sure is excited to be getting a Jeep :-)r

Hey there Tom, not sure if you're asking for any advice/opinions or just making some observations so forgive me if I'm telling you things you already know. Your flip-up window issue definitely sounds electrical in nature. An auto electrician would be the best way to go as it requires the testing of several circuits to track down where exactly the issue is, unless you yourself know a way around a multimeter etc. The second also sounds like an electrical issue but like you said, should be something more simple and evident, like a plug coming loose.

One - I do not understand what you are saying re the rear lift gate window. It opens when a signal (via fob or door handle) is sent to the electronic widget that opens the window latch and the window lifts based on pressure in the 2 lift cylinders. To close simply push down on the lift gate window until it latches; there is nothing that would prevent pushing down. Now if you mean it won't latch when you push down either a) the latch mechanism is mechanically not flipping closed (possibly a lube issue) or b) it's stuck partially open (possibly a lube issue or failure of the micro switch that controls the latch, see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=65100&p=717861&hilit=deteant#p717861

Two - common cause is a bad wheel speed sensor(s). On the 05 it's most likely the single rear sensor on top of the differential that often is dead due to a break in the wiring inside the insulation which requires a continuity check to find.

can't read what it says but its more than likely a simple switch or something.

Making a simple thing into a muti page explanation here :ROTFL:
It opens fine, I know how they work, have worked on plenty of them in the last ten years.
So opening is great, just when closing you have to hit the open button on the key fob to close it. Simple fix I am sure, I was just trying this one out last evening and noticed that. They knocked almost 2000 off the asking price before I left so repairs are not a problem. Was more or less asking if anyone had the same issues before I get it back here and tear into it
Thanks for the answer

Chuckle - decades ago I drove a couple of friends from Columbia, MO to Independence, MO, back in the days of gas at $0.259 so call it $0.01 per mile for fuel cost, to pickup a used Mercedes-Benz 190SL from some car lot (not dealer). When we got there the vehicle was in wonderful shape but the dash lights did not work so they knocked like $100 (10% or so) off the price. Half way back to Columbia my buddies discovered the switch that turned those lights on.

Anyway. Like I said I suspect your rear lift gate problem is with the latch. The fact that it works when you hit the open button suggest to me that somehow the latch is closing after the window is opened which is why I mentioned the micro switch issue.

I´m sure it´s the switch like in my thread.... 8)

Your symptoms stand definitly for this: when you open the rear gate with the handle, normally this micro-swich send a signal of 10 volt to the latch mechanism of the rear glass -> if the switch is dead, it doesn´t work. But you can open the rear gate not even checking that this mechanism doesn´t work anymore.

But when you want to close the rear window, you can´t do it, because the latch mechanism is locked -> now you push the rear opening button on your key fob ond the latch mechanism gets now the signal form the other side (other cable) with the correct 10 volt. Now the latch mechanism is open and you can close your rear window...

Everything clear...? :P

Not picking it up until tomorrow . Then I'll know more about it.
But thats what it was doing and the current owner says its been that way for a year.
She dropped the price almost 2000 ( after I told her how much things were going to cost to repair   ) so I have room to buy some parts

I'm sure thats it.
Cool story on the 190SL :ROTFL:
I used to buy at car auctions ( buy em and flip em) Was looking at a Fiero one time, and had pulled a couple of plug wires off to check them. They start bidding, its up 1500-1600-2000-2500, then they started it, sat there missing etc, guys starting backing out, they had to restart the bidding due to the way it ran. Bidding went up to $425 and I had myself a Fiero with a Ferrari body kit on it, custom paint, wider wheels and tires. Went over after the auction, reinstalled the plug wires and drove away. Whoops guess I forgot to put those wires back on................. :ROTFL:
