For weeks I've heard something rocking around in the tank. It's louder when the fuel level is lower. Now my fuel gauge will drift all over the map. It will drop to empty out of the blue and then the next time I turn it on it will read the correct level. Any ideas what this could be or how difficult it would be to repair?

sounds like fuel level sending unit came loose. Drop the tank and take a peak. Run it out of fuel first...

:furious: I hate it when my posts don't take but ditto given the loose in the tank noise. Check out http://www.auerbach.ca/kj/lift_pump/ for a how to on dropping the tank which can and probably should be done when low but not empty. Also consider installing an in tank pump while you are in there.

FYI as I've posted before erratic fuel level readings (not reaching full, later reaching fuel, inaccurate reading at low fuel levels - just generally cannot depend on gauge) can also be related to a going bad battery as stoutdog and I both know.
