Got the heads off the 3.7 last night. Cylinder walls and piston
tops are in excellent condition. Can still see the cross hatch pattern
in the cylinder walls.

Looks like the #1 cylinder was leaking into the coolant passages.
There is some corrosion around the coolant ports in the block. The PO had
the universal green coolant in it, maybe mixed with HOAT... Hard to say. It
never got hotter than 3/4 on the temp gauge, probably from the combustion gases displacing
the coolant... It never smoked, missed, or threw a CEL, engine purred like a kitten.

I found a SealingTek brand gasket set with head bolts on Ebay for $90.00
Never heard of that brand, but they had decent reviews from what I could find.

After researching my options, I am going to clean all surfaces and put it back
together with new gaskets/bolts. The valve guides/seats look good, and the head surfaces
are pretty clean except where it appeared to be leaking.

I paid $1400 for the Libby, so for the small investment, I think it's worth trying to replace
the gaskets with the old heads. If that doesn't work, I will decide if I want to go with
remanufactured heads, or just replace the whole engine... I don't have a whole lot of time in
it at this point....

I will take some pics soon and post them.

Update:
While cleaning the block and heads, I found a nasty crack
in the #2 cylinder wall. It's definitely not a scratch, it runs
sideways and is about 3" long. This makes sense why combustion
gases were getting into the cooling system.

I found a deal at a local junkyard on a 2002 4.7 out of
a Dakota. I also got the ECM that came with the engine.

I could not find a 2002 3.7 locally and the others I found were
extremely expensive, maybe because newer 3.7's will not work
in a 2002. I figured if I'm doing extra work, might as well swap
in a V8.

My Libby has the 45RFE so I'm not concerned about trans strength.
I have read many threads about this, and it doesn't seem to be too
difficult, other than the wiring...

Later model 3.7s will work with just a little work, much less than what it takes to install a 4.7

The Dakota exhaust manifolds will not clear the firewall.
I got a pair of exhaust manifolds off a Grand Cherokee with the 4.7.
They hug the block better and should fit the Libby better.

I am still working on the motor mount configuration.....
I found a local company that does wiring harness/ECM work....
Gonna get the exhaust and motor mounts sorted out, then start
on the wiring...

Here is a link to the Illinois LOST Jeeps FB page... I posted pics a
few pics.... More to come....
