i am looking for a trany skid but i have seen any that i like
i dont want to try to "make" on fit so the mopar is out
i have read some where that the rustys skid dont fit on an '03 so they are out
the skidrow seems like a lotta bling ($$$) i think it goes for about $275-$300

i was thinking about getting with a guy here in south LA who does this stuff and have him build one that would fit and would not hit on the exaust pipe
i have never seen where any body pulled off the pipe but i have seen folks bust the trans pan and i would think that, that would be worse than a busted
exaust pipe??

i was looking for some demensions on both the rustys and the skidrow
mostly i am wandering how wide??
how thick and do they have gussets or braces? if so where?

the guy who will be building this skid builds custom jeep parts ,nothing for the KJ at this time, i have a pair of rock sliders on my TJ that he builds and they supported 1/2 the weight of the jeep on one side no wheels tuching with no flex in the sliders so i know he builds hard core stuff i just need to get some numbers and a good sketch to him so i can get this thing built

thanks Jason

Why not the ALL J SUPER SKID?? Works great on an 03 and beefy as they come. $266 is much cheaper than a new transmission.

that is why i was going custom besides that if i have him build one for me and it works out well then he gives me a hecka deal on the next thing like rock sliders or some thing like that
by works out well i mean if others buy them
go check out his sight www.searchers4wd.com[/url]

Has he quoted you a price to custom make it yet? Might end up the same price anyway.

I think beefy is the best word for the Super Skid. It makes the Mopar one on the left look like tin.

Call Andy at Carolina Rock Shop, (704)525-5109. He's got great prices on Skid Row products. Make sure you tell him you're from L.O.S.T..

I bet that would be 1/2 price for him and more money for those after him?
I can totally see why you would want to support a local guy that will custom make something for your KJ and it is very cool of him to do it.

If you can get your KJ to him he should be able to figure out the dimensions and measurements for the skid pretty easily. The front will bolt into where the rear of the front skid bolts up and the back end will bolt right up through the cross member. You can sandwich the transfer case skid between the rear of the trans skid and crossmember w/ the same bolts. Just drill up through the crossmember where the nutserts would go and use some 1/2" carriage bolts, putting the rounded head side on the bottom of the skid.

(maybe some of this is obvious, but I am on a typing roll here.....)

the way we are making it is very simple but still very strong
to give an idea it will fit between the welds on the front cross member up front 16" wide
it will then span back to the rear or the trans mission/xfer case skid and be 18" wide and drill up through the 2 slots in the cross member
so i will not use the nut zerts in the front or rear but rather drill 4 new holes it will have ribs that will span front to rear with a gap for the exsaust stuff and have a very low profilethe plan is to leave it as smoth as posable so that it can slide easily over and off stuff unlike some others like the super skid that in the pics look like it has highs and lows that could get hung up on stuff but i dont know for sure cause i dont have one

if this works out good then sliders are next and some other custom stuff for sure

Thanks for the heads up on this Jason. My mopar skid, after just 1 run, was all bent to hell and rubbed on my exhaust. When i took it off to add more spacers to prevent the rubbing it was so bent that it wouldn't go back on. i would be scared to use this skid anywhere hardcore after it gave up the ghost on a relatively easy ride. i am in for sliders too.
