I have a stock 2005 CRD with 210,000 miles. When I make sharp turns at low speed I feel quite a bit of resistance and cannot turn as sharply as I desire. It does not happen with gradual turns, like at intersections. I checked the ball joints and they look fine and pass the wiggle test. What should I check next?

I truly wish that was the case, but you understand the symptom. It's not in full time, but the steering feels like it is.

Common for the 242 not to actually shift out of 4wd regardless of shifter location.

I've also heard that going in reverse for about 50' can help disengage it too.
