Okay, so Stave (MF Steve! from the PghOffRoad forum) and I have been talking about making a trip to Canada to bring back some Canadian M101 trailers.



The trailers are $695 each, and that does not include the 12v lights or tarps. The lights and tarps are available for an additional charge. The trailers were manufactured in 1992 and have never been used in service. They are basically brand new, but they have been sitting for a while. I am told they are in great shape, no rot, but some minor surface rust - but not too bad at all. These trailers are the perfect size to pull behind a Jeep or small to midsized off road vehicle.

The shipping is the problem. That is where it starts to get expensive. To have one shipped to PA you are adding on a few hundred dollars to the price. So, Steve and I have come up with this idea. If we take his truck and a trailer and go to Canada to pick them up (A 5 1/2 hour drive each-way) we could probably cut down the cost on the shipping charges a good bit. I am hoping to get enough interest that we can go up there and pick up at least 4 of these trailers and split the shipping costs 4 ways. On top of that I am hoping to get the guy selling them to cut me a little bit of a break on price if I go up there with cash and pick up 4 of them and bring them back to the Pittsburgh area.

So, is there any interest from anyone here? I am hoping to get 4 people (Myself, and 3 others) to come up with the money for these and Steve and I will go get them. Obviously, this will take a few weeks to get finalized. Anyone interested can email me at Bill@SteelCityOffRoad.com

I wish I had seen this about a month ago. Just bought a 69 m416 to tow bwhind the KJ. It is in very good condition except for some surface rust on the frame and a few small rust holes in the bed. I got it for $425, but will put at least $500 in it to restore it. Its pintle hitch has been replaced with a standard ball hitch that I will now have to remove and find a replacement for, most likely a treg hitch from Adventure trailer.

A local military surplus yard here in Dover, De wants $1200 for one of those newer Canadian m101's. $695 is a great price and if you can get several people in on the buy to save shipping, that is a great deal.

I am hoping that I can get them here to Pittsburgh w/ lights and tarps for under $1k. That is the plan anyway.

I have gotten quite a few responses today with people that seem interested. So, I am hoping I can pull this off.

Okay, here is what I have from the place in Canada.

If we get 4 trailers, the shipping is $165 each. (Total of $860 + options)
If we get 6 trailers, the shipping is $135 each. (Total of $830 + options)
If we get 9 trailers, the shipping is $85 each. (Total of $780 + options)

Now, this is the delivery being arranged from the seller in Canada. I am still waiting on the information from the guy locally that said he would be willing to go and get them and bring them back. It looks like the round trip mileage from here will be right under 1200 miles total. The guy has a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD with a trailer. I am starting to think shipping from the seller may work out better. The only thing is that I will not personally be there to pick the trailers out from the stock he has. That has me slightly concerned. I am hoping to find some people who have ordered from him before to get some feedback.

Anyone know what the deal would be with getting tags put on these things? I seem to recall reading somewhere that there was a problem with getting tags put on surplus vehicles like this.

I'd be interested as well if it is possible to use these legally on the road. I wouldn't mind an excuse to come to Pittsburgh to get it....Church Brew Works is always a good pit stop

I would call your State DMV and start there. As for the Church Brew Works....well that place is always a good time...good eats too.

I checked the MD MVA site and it looks like as long as I have a bill of sale, it should be OK. They have a provision for homemade trailers and they give you a VIN plate to afix to it and then title it.

Let me know when you need a 100% commitment. This looks like a good deal to me.

Those trailers look exactly like the type used by some of the off-road tent campers. Could be fun to build one up.
