Hey folks,

Over the last few days in Nova Scotia, Canada, we have had some crazy rains that turned my dead end road in to an island. I think I heard on the radio that there was about 100 mm (~3 ft) of rain that fell where I am. Going to work this morning I had to cross a pretty significant amount over water to get to the main road. I didn't get out to check how deep it was, but it was up over the bumpers for about 60 feet.

My KK handled it just fine, and actually made the crossing 3 times as I had to go back to get my wife to take her to work (her little Mazda 3 wouldn't cross it). The brakes got wet and seemed soupy for a bit, but after a few miles they dried out and work just fine.

What maintenance, if any, should I do to my Jeep after this sort of water crossing. I see the owners manual suggests checking fluids for water contamination. Anything else?

PS Picture attached was looking out at the road as I first arrived at the pond.

If you took is slow and didn't try to create a mini tsunami (SOOOO much fun haha), you'll be fine. Check to see if your horn works, sometimes it can get a little water logged.

No need to check if you took it easy and if it wasn't much water.
You can always look into the mod some members have done with extending the breather hoses.

I disagree....check your fluids in the diffs.

Yes if you don't have extended vent hoses on everything depending on how deep the water was you need to check them close

As long as the water was not over your headlights your good. If stock, the air intake is in the middle of the passenger headlight. If able to, check if there are any dried fish under the hood! Free dinner! :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Again not true....your front diff breather dosent come up very far, if ypu didnt extend them. And if you go over your headlights your diff fluids would be the last thing to worry about.

So far so good. It's been through 3 times, with at least one more to go tonight. Water was measured at 18" deep in the middle last night. Will do diff fluid check/change tomorrow when the water starts to recede a bit.

The breather for the rear diff is the lowest on the stock KK. It ends under the back seat floor.

Here is a great write up for extending the breathers.

Just a picture update for you guys. This was taken a few days ago, driving up the center of the road. You can't see where the road ends and the swamps begins on the left side.
This was coming out of the deep part.
I'm glad the water is going down and we can finally get through again with our other cars.

Awesome picture. Honestly, you can get through that water without creating much wake. That being said, I still think this is no problem for the Liberty.
