I personally like my Duratracs. They're in-between A/Ts and M/Ts. Not as aggressive as a mud tire, but more aggressive than most all terrains. They're still considered all terrains though. They do well on the beaches(they can dig quick though), never had to use 4wd in any of our snow storms, and dirt/mud they've never had problem when I would go upstate. On the road, they hum a bit and you feel them in the pedals. They also seem to kill mileage(I get 13-15 average with the larger tires, I used to get 17mpg). Some have gotten them in stock size and notice a mile or 2 less per gallon. And aesthetically they look good

Hard to beat the Duratracs almost 81,000 miles now

To the original poster... there is lots of good information on here. Let me add to it.
Best bang for your buck is the OME 1.5 inch lift already mentioned.
If you feel the need for bigger tires, go 245/75/16 in your choice of A/T tire.
If you want your tires to stick out further, throw some 1.25 inch Spidertrax wheel spacers on.
If you want to go faster, and sound better, copy my setup. K&N CAI, Gibson stainless steel exhaust, Hypertech programmer, and a 4.7L throttle body to top it all off.

KYLiberty did a bunch of testing back a few years ago, had the blown up 3.7s sitting in his garage to prove it.
Kenne Bell made one for a very short time until they figured out 3.7 will not hold any boost
So you're not going to be seeing a supercharged KK

my dreams... out the window. so no turbo possibilities then?

No boost sadly. You can be the first v8 swap in a KK though. Mopar 4.7 or a GM small block LS would probably be the "easiest". It'll take a lot of time and money though.

ill be the first diesel swap in a KK! I've always wanted a Cummins in my KK since day 1. v6 Diesel. ill get 100k miles on her before I do a swap. at this rate, the swap would be after 2020! I've had my KK for a year now and I've only put 11k miles on it. 4k was to Virginia, off roading, and back. other then that its a mall crawler at best.
