You know, this is one of the reasons this board exists.

All KJ owners have gone through this. To me, it was one of my favorite parts of owning a KJ. Letting some guy talk smack about my Jeep, only to see his face as I pull up at the end of a very tough trail, was priceless.

I have a JK Rubicon now, but I still miss my old KJ (Got totaled in a rear end collision). I have great respect for anyone who is willing to mod what they have and wheel it. Whether it be a Liberty, A new Renegade, Cherokee, or whatever. Supposed "street Jeeps" are always my favorite rigs to watch on a trail. It's boring to watch a Jeep with a 4.5" lift and 35" tires go through a tough spot. It's much more entertaining to watch a smaller rig do it, and *in my opinion* it takes much more skill.

Exactly what I belive!

It doesn't matter what you bring to the trail as long as you get out and wheel. I lost interest in most Jeep clubs due to attitudes.........

Agreed. Worse than the attitudes, though, is when some people gain a minor inkling of mechanical idea, and reject members based off of that. Then again, it's terrible also when people put up the facade they know what they're talking about when they really don't have a clue.

I have come to the conclusion that local clubs are worth zilch...then again, I had to deal with JJ and brew city crawlers...people who can't turn a wrench, or pick a line, and bought their rigs already built but had the nerve to say they did the work.

I started out wheeling back in the 70s with a bunch of old guys ( well old to me then, same age I am now) Anyways we had more fun back then than I have had in the last twenty years. They didn't care what you drove, we even had one guy who brought a Subaru Brat all the time, we drug him around a lot but had fun! We didn't have lifts, tires were a joke compared to whats out there today, if all 4 wheels were the same color you were really styling
We used to razz each other so much about each others rides , well if you did that today you'd be banned from all trail rides and forums.
Seems now that if you don't have a certain type of rig, no way in you're in the club or going wheeling or you have to have a full on trail only buggy hauled in behind a smoking diesel ! :ROTFL:
Same thing happened to riding bikes. Bought my first Harley in 72, rode with Hondas/ Yamahas/ Kaws/ Trumps even though I rode a Harley. Then it became the in thing to do for Doctors and Lawyers and if you didn't have 10,000 worth of chrome trinkets and the right Harley shirt you weren't worth riding with and you certainly don't ride with Hondas etc .

Crazy world in which we live or maybe its the crazy people and the world is fine

I think it's a combination of both world and people. It depends on the people you ride with and hangout with. My friends say stuff to me about the KK, one just bought a 2014 JKU, the other an 08 JKU Rubicon. Idk how well I'd keep up with the Rubicon, but I know I can hold my own against the 2014. But they're joking around and know how capable the Liberty is. A few other guys I go out with don't care what you wheel. One used to have an Xterra, awesome truck, now he has a Tj. The other has a TJ and he's all for building up the KK. I feel like it's a lot of the kids in XJs that hate, but they're normally the dirt bags that try to do burnouts....(yes we have those on L.I, how many can say you've seen someone do a burnout in an XJ and brag?), or the "Elitists" that claim you need a Wrangler and 40" tires with 6" of lift yadda yadda yadda. Just closed minded people putting down other 4x4s...

Do you have the diesel one ton trucks with 10-12 inches of lift and 35s running around as well?
We've got so many of those its almost a joke anymore

I have no hate for the KJ. Kind of hard when ya have a KK. Even cooler if they're diesel.
I really have never heard much of any flack about our IFS Jeeps, then again, I'm not an offroader.
Wouldn't be surprised if I could pick out those people by looking at what they drive.
Saw a built up JK one time that had a "XJ rescue vehicle" sticker. Face palm. We're all Jeeps. Can't we just get along?

Funny thing....I love wheeling with people who bought their way in, especially wrangler people, when they out 36" tires on their chromed up rigs and try wheeling with a manual trans and 3.07 gears.

I mean, the desire is admirable, but....I gotta tell you, the cluelessness is really what we should have any sort of problem with. It's exactly right to relate it to the Harley world today.

Nothing that severe. I would say about 6-8" tops on 35s, some 37s. Then there's a few monsters around that sit on 40+" tires and have the big lifts. A lot of the big trucks seem tastefully done with height to tire size. Biggest thing I hate is the stretched tires on overly wide rims.

A lot of the offroad crowd here runs chopped up XJs. I prefer clean trucks. If you own a XJ and want to run 33s, I'd rather see more lift than cut fenders. But to each their own I guess...

Snobs who look down on others because they are different are really only demonstrating that they need the identity of their in-group to compensate for the fact that they are too insecure to make it on their own. If you aren't confident that you can stand as an individual you join a club and then sneer at all the non-members. It's like the little dog that picks a fight and then goes running back to the pack of other little dogs for support.

Most trucks in my area are done nicely. Only a small handful of modded XJ's in my area.
Something that makes me laugh when I see someone with a JK with $1000 rims, and big tires. To each his own.

So I had to dig up this old thread. Why?
Well, yesterday I show up at work a little late. We had a good snow storm and the roads were covered. Most places only had one lane cleared, so I told the guy, that I was late because I was driving in the snow plowing the second lane on my way in.. He made some kind of comment about me being stuck etc, and proceed on taking me up on a challenge.. Supposedly I was going to get stuck in the snow before he would.

Well, after work, we went to a co-worker's back yard, drove around in the snow, and he managed to get stuck..
Long story short, I had to tow him out when he got stuck, and then push him up the hill...

I drove everywhere that guy went, and went up and over the hill in one try. We even had a lifted Dodge truck stuck in there. :P

Image

After I pulled him.

And the truck.

just take the word Jeep off the tail gate and replace it with the letters "Real"

then demand they show you where their badging says Real, anywhere on the f'in Jeep lol

I'd say about 95% of the time the people who talk like that get a real blank stare and their face turns red when you start asking what they've regeared to, lockers, and other topics because frankly the brand+model is the only thing they have to go on - benefits and negatives of model vs model and other such topics are well beyond their grasp

the ones that actually do know their stuff are able to appreciate the finer details and effort people go to

Yep. If I was rich I would probably buy a soft-top Wrangler just for running around in the open air during nice weather. Unfortunately, I am not rich.

Lots of those Wrangler people are like dude ranch cowboys. They buy the shiny spurs and sequined saddle, then think they're John Wayne. I haven't been able to do nearly enough to my Liberty yet, but when I finally can it will be used in the great outdoors exploring, not just driving through a muddy ditch one weekend a month while screaming "Hey, look at me!"...

Personally, I try not to let attitudes affect me. I've been hit with racism, homophobia, and just general rudeness - all because of driving a Liberty. Although some of it is apparently 'in good fun' (not my kind of fun), some of the comments I've heard/experienced first-hand have been genuinely horrible.

Don't worry about it, drive what YOU enjoy. If you don't like the vehicle, change it. If you don't like the people you hang out with, change them too. It's not like they're family.

Cheers! :JEEPIN:

ive got a few friends with XJs and they always bash on me for owning a KK. well, I always survive mud pits and I end up having to pull them out. electronic lockers verses opens and limited slips. im not part of any club due to these issues mentioned above.

Yea, i get the occasional "real Jeep" comment. But those are far outnumbered by the compliments. Plus, it never seems to fail that the guy in the yellow H2 or the brand shiny new Wrangler suddenly gets super quiet when you ask him WHERE he goes wheeling. And if that doesn't shut the $& up then i just whip out some of the videos on my phone. Thats generally when they make a hasty retreat and find a reason to go home.

Me personally? I dont care what you drive, bonus points for having four wheel drive, more bonus points for any kind of "Jeep" badge, and my personal respect if its still got mud on it.
