Which do y'all prefer in general? Not necessarily what you can run, but what you'd want to run.

This has been posted on many different forums, but I'm not sure if I've seen it here? Narrow or wide tires, which do y'all prefer? For the 32" tires, it's between 265/75 R16 and 235/85r16. The smaller sizes have their comparable options as well. This is an open discussion for everybody to express their views.

I tend to lean more towards function over looks (ie. I'd rather
spend $600 on a locker or armor over a light bar because I feel is get more use out of them) . I think wider tires look better and offer a little more stability due to the wider stance, but IMO the practicality of skinnys surpasses them in value. Skinny are lighter so less stress on drive line components and offer better gas mileage, and are ever so slightly taller. In most instances they also add more traction (except sand and really deep snow). This is my opinion on what I've read.

I'll take a wider for example a 265-75-16 over a 235-85-16
Due to not wanting or needing a 8-10 ply tire ( 235-85-16 size in most case)
But also skinnys look good on older Jeep, up to and including CJs after that not so much
But in reality in the sizes we can run, there really isn't that much difference like there is in a 10.50 -vs- a 13.50 etc
Between a 235-85-16 and 265-75-16 you have about one inch of section width and one inch of tread width between the two

I run Toyo Open Country AT2 tires in 265/75R16. They're the best tires and size I've run on my Liberty so far.

If you wheel it you will want as wide as you can go.

Only thing skinny tires have going for them is better for front use(with staggered wide rear tires) for deep mud to cut a path while the wide rears grab the edges of the cut path for forward movement.

I like them narrow due to running them as daily drivers in icy conditions from November to May sometimes. ( I run a narrower snow tire on all the cars I have owned as well. Usually about .5 inches taller too, if they'll fit!) I also really like the 10 ply ratings, as the kind of "offroading" i tend to do up here is more graded woods roads, which put a hurting on 4 and 6 plys I have ran in the past. (Especially right after a fresh grading.) There are of course 2 sides to every coin. A few times I know I would not have sank as much if I had been running a wider, aired down tire. Trade-offs for both that's for sure!
