Will the shock mount on the body be sturdy enough?

You my friend are in uncharted territory. But id do like Bills KJ (d30 surplus SFA build) and run them up thru the floor. With coilovers you are gonna loose your uptravel in the factory location. And possibly blow a shock.

Unless you run a cantilever setup............

I've already done a lot of the geometry involved in this. Just need to move the EVAP canister and change the exhaust routing and you can run 8" travel coilovers in between the bumper and where the hitch side rails mount to the unibody...

Being a DD that sees mostly street use, and will eventually go to my girlfriend, I want to avoid cutting the floor. A cantilever setup will be needed then. That complicates things as I think different angles etc change spring rates.

However, it will be easy to fit. You'll probably be able to keep the hitch, but you might need to move the spare. I'll have to look into it, I know NAM has done a lot of that already. Other than that, you can move the evap canister to a similar location as JeepMonkey's and the exhaust can be rerouted easily or just have a turn down before the rear axle. The early dump might make it a little louder, but that's just a reason to buy a quieter muffler lol(more for the older folk...).

The next biggest issue, is you'll probably need a steel rear bumper *cough ATH cough* so that a mounting tab for the top of the coilover can be there. I don't believe the stock bumper has a strong enough piece back there to mount to.

Is there no crossmember or any structural part back there? I never looked. You might be able to use the hitch though. And it will justify a metal rear for my girlfriend  "Babe, trust me she'll ride a million times better with coil overs. One thing, I kinda need a metal bumper and tire carrier for it..."

I don't believe the rear end cross member stick out of the far enough to the outside to mount anything. But why not have an aftermarket bumper!
