After owning my kk for a while I'm looking at getting a small tow rig set up. It came with a U-hual hitch but no harness. I have seen some for $20 and mopar for over $100. I'd prefer to not end up in the higher price area but would like plug and play..

yea, its pricey! I just did a quick search on amazon. id bet you could find a Curt harness (shipping) cheaper elsewhere.

there are other dirt cheep harnesses, but members on here have had issues with them.

not sure about the internals of a Curt and OEM harness, but they are probably similar.

all should be p 'n' p.

It will probably be forever till I actually buy a trailer since they are expensive in my book but I am looking for the purpose of buying yard supplies etc eventually.

Personally I prefer the OEM harness. It has the wires for a trailer brake if and when I need one.
It also ties directly into the battery so I don't have to worry about overloading a circuit.
As far as trailers go, here is what I did.
I found a camper sitting in someones yard that was falling apart. I inquired about it and the guy said I could just have it, if I could "get that eye sore out of my yard". He did have a title to it. 8)
Got a trip permit for it, towed it home then stripped it down to the bare frame.
I burnt the wood from it. Recycled all the aluminum, stainless and copper. Which paid for the parts I had to take to the dump. Cut down the metal horizontal side braces(see how the rear is wider) so it was not quite as wide up front, then put 2x6s on the rest to make a bed. Used some 2x4 and Ply/wafer board to make the sides.
Here is the result. 5' X 12' (inside measurements) trailer for just under $500 and it has trailer brakes, but I have never used or needed them.

As you can see after many years(10+) of sitting outside it is due a new set of boards in and out. The first time around I did not use treated wood, so I'm happy with how long they lasted.

This thing can handle 2K of green fir fire wood with ease.

I will never buy curt again. I had the above harness and after about a year of light use, the harness began to effect my tail/signal/reverse lights. When the harness was connected at the taillights i had no signal lights. Then i lost a reverse light and brake light.. Narrowed it down to the harness, ripped it out and all my lights work perfectly again. Ill be buying the oem harness soon

it may be possibly you had a faulty unit. or had to many lights on the trailer. theres so many factors that could affect the operation of the harness. id doubt any one has not had an issue with a mopar harness.

My boat trailer has two taillights haha. I would think it could handle that. The worst part is, ive talked to the companies about replacing my faulty unit and they have basically told me to pound sand
