I've only seen this been done on a crd, but not on a KK.

im interested on removing the muffler and keeping the resonator to keep things some what quiet. im wondering from all of your past experience if doing this will gain any improvement in horse power and or torque asswell as being more "green" with gas.

also, any foreseeable CEL with this after the ecu is reset?

this mod has potential to cost under $30.

EDIT: and keeping in mind that I have the 4.7l TB with 2.80 id intake.

Making more " noise" is about all that it will do.
A muffler that flows better helps a very small amount in overall running ( HP and torque) and mileage
and it will not be more " green" :ROTFL:
4 wheel and off road or one of those mags did a test a few years back on a KJ
result was only a couple more HP and one or two lbs of torque, not even enough to worry about
If you have 30 bucks to spend, put it towards something that actually helps

You will not gain any torque, you will actually loose low end torque thus making you use more gas.

I have to agree. No real gains and even possible losses.
Most rigs now days require the "scavenging effect" to assist in getting the exhaust out. With to little resistance, the exhaust gas velocity can drop to the point of eliminating the benefits of the scavenging effect. By doing what you are thinking about, you may reduce the scavenging effect of the exhaust pulses, actually causing a negative effect on your HP and mileage.
This is the reason a true dual exhaust(or running with no muffler) is not recommended on these small/high RPM engines.
The "scavenging effect" is when the previous exhaust pulse helps to suck out the next exhaust pulse.
If you were to run WOT all the time, the "scavenging effect" would not be an issue(as in racing). If you are racing then your mileage doesn't matter much anyway.
