I am in the process of setting the timing and my tensioner seems to move a ¼ when I am turning it over by hand. I have turned it 20 or 30 times and the pins still go in.
Just nervous because the vids don’t show it moving much when running. Of Course it may not move much once the vehicle is running.

Any thoughts?

1/4 what? Inch?

After the initial manual rotation and resetting the tension I didn't notice any further movements.

Do you remember how hard it was to turn over manually, it seems to be moving when It is opening the valves.

When I put my cam shaft pin in it seems to be at around 130 not 90.

I have the number one injector out and can see when it reaches top dead center.

I didn't feel anything abnormal over and above the force required to compress.

You're thinking one of your cams may be binding? I don't see how the tensioner would move if this was the case since all the force required to rotate the cams, and evrything else for that matter, is achieved by tugging the belt from the right hand side of the crank. Any movement in the tensioner would need to be accompanied by belt stretch or some other give in the path.

Did you install a new tensioner and are you sure you've got it torqued up properly.

I figured out my tensioner issue.

Any idea on why my cam pin seems to be around 130 not 90.

Thanks

I one do not understand how your cam pin can stay at 130 degrees... The cam pins stay parallel to engines horizontal line. In other words, just set your cams so you can insert the pins through the valve cover and you're good to go, as long as the crankshaft is properly set at 90 degree tdc.

It's not quite clear how you're figuring this out but, was the vehicle running before you started? If so, and you've not been freewheeling these cams or turning the engine with the belt off, you could be off by a tooth or two but it's highly unlikely you're out by 40 degrees.

If you can get all 3 pins in place simultaneously then you're good to go.

Don't forget, that #1 injector needs a new seal when you put it back in.

Engine is running great, but I think my turbo just went. The cam pin turned out to be me after resetting and getting someone to turn the crank while I put the lower pin in it aligned fine, didn't think there would be another hole.

Was on my test drive went to town ran around, and noticed a whine when I let up on the throttle. About 7 miles down the road, a big whine and no power.

Are you sure you haven't just popped your CAC hose. Maybe you didn't re-tighten the band properly when you put it back on?
