Myself and a couple others keep track of what has and has not been vacated. There are some that look like roads and aren't and then there are some that are still roads but are to grown up to travel.

So you definately need to know what's what.

We ran a trail near Mcarthur in the fall of last year and had a current township road map. This fella ran me off and said it was a rented road and was his, so we apologized and left. On Monday I called the county engineer, he said yep ,it's closed. He also said the township map is wrong. :dead: :dizzy:

I know Vinton County closed a bunch of them over the past few years.
People complained but they didn't care since rich owners of lands around them wanted them closed

Someone sent me a link to an organization speaking on or behalf in Columbus. They've been successful in stopping the state from vacating old roads, I think the countries are affected as well. When I get a chance, I'll look for the info. There were quite a few roads closed though.

I am in touch with the engineer on a fairly regular basis. Have been on the trail with him and omta in the past marking legal road ways. Some have been vacated as stated. Just Becuase it's on the map doesn't mean it's still there and vise versa.

I very seldom ever travel the roads you hear people talking about unless I'm leading a group around.

I usually stay on the east side of the county and in hocking county.

https://youtu.be/4wm0VS5bk3U

Some lesser known roads.

That day we traveled 28 miles from the time we locked in to the time we exited the last road. 3 of those miles where on pavement/maintained road

I can't find the membership package they sent me. :(
There was a letter, membership car sticker and forum information. They also sent a registration number to set-up a user profile. The only link I found was for offroadohio.com. Not sure if that was them or not.

More than likely thats what is was for ted
I belonged to that group back 6-8 years ago, they were mainly interested in 2 wheels instead of 4 though
Of course any help in maintaining existing roads etc would be good
They were based in Logan not sure if the same guy runs it or not now

Bill k. Is still the pres. He is also the founder. Thier only real interest is dual sport motorcycle. I've found they take our money and do next to nothing for us.

But that is my personal opinion.
There is one guy fighting for the jeep crowd. I suppose with e ought 4x4 members we could start throwing some wieght.

They are a very political group they focus on wasting time and money on issues noone cares about and I've yet to see them come out and support any of.ohios pay to rode offroad parks.

Again my opinion and mine only.

Yea, I think that was it. They sure talked a good story about going to Columbus to fight for keeping the unimproved roads open for public use. There was also some talk about state operated parks for jeep sized vehicles.

They fought for ever road thay got vaccated anyways. But they only want the roads to ride thier dual sports on.

Go in and act like you rode dual sport and not jeep. Then you will see the backstabbing that goes on.

I was a member for many years, then they told wayne national Forrest in Washington DC that all we'd do is tear up the terrian. Thus why no trails in wnf for us.

The founder called filed a complaint on the motocross track near his house for noise pollution.

He posted photos of jeeps on the road ways of vinton county talking about the big tires rutting it up and how this was bad for dual sport riders.

I recommend everyone form thier own opinion, join them and attend a meeting and see of they've done anything with your time and money.

Where did you see them at? Offroad expo in dayton??

Jeepforum I think. It's been awhile, my membership should be expiring soon. Sounds like these guys are as bad as horse people and bicyclists.

I thought it was you. Is that a CRD too? I'd like to get ahold of one of those and deep pockets to mod it.

Good test bringing it back from Boston then!
Nice little trip, used to run over every other weekend ( Toledo to Brookline, suburb of Boston ) on Friday, back to Toledo on Sunday night
Jeep never shut off , 80 plus all the way, just stop for gas and keep on bookin'
I think it was around 750 miles one way , no wonder my Jeep has so many miles on it :banghead:

Like I said I like to let people for thier own opinion. I obviously have mine.

I also ride horses, and I am a member of a couple equastrian save the trails type group. I think they like us more!

Horse people are very organized. That's why they get what they want. The are the ones who got it into law that if you do not charge a person to use your land recreationaly then you can not be held liable. Becuase of that law horse people have lots of trails that cut across private land near state parks.

See the law here https://www.ohiobar.org/ForPublic/Resou ... e-611.aspx

Noone really takes advantage of it in the 4wd community though.

Horse trails are easy to maintain you may have to fill a muddy spot here or there, but jeep trails, are tough to keep passable by the average user. Those of us with bigger jeeps go in, it gets rutted, guy in his stock kk tears his bumpers off when it drags through the ruts. Then people run over trees to bypass a simple mud hole like what I've seen alot of in vinton county.

It's a tight rope to walk and a pita for the state that's why we have no trails.

Requires committed dedication from the community and as a whole we don't have that.
