Hi there! I own a 2005 CRD (Silver, pretty basic still - not yet pimped out mechanically or visually much). (2nd owner). It has run like a dream for past 5 years but, thanks to a move, a crazy mix up, and then entrusting it to a new (Jeep dealer) mechanic in new home town who had no idea how to work on diesels at all, and certainly not the CRD), I've recently been having a string of problems and haven't gotten to drive my baby more than 10 days over past 6 months! (And this through the worst Boston winter on record!) Finally took it back to my original mechanic up in NH, and he's found the source of the problem, (at least he thinks). I've got a bunch of almost microscopic pinhole leaks in several of my lines, resulting in low pressure, fuel starvation, bucking, stalling, etc... We've replaced several of the lines and the issue is getting better, but still need the line that runs from the fuel tank to the intake. We're having trouble sourcing this. (And secondarily - anyone else see this problem on their 05 CRD?)

Can any one help me with a place to buy this part? (Not sure the MOPAR part #) Thanks!

I'm not sure I believe microscopic pin hole leaks especially when the normal source for leaks (air in the fuel) are the 2 fuel supply line quick disconnect fittings back at the tank or in the fuel filter head and there are really only 2 lines involved - 1) tank to fuel filter head and 2) fuel filter head to CP3 fuel pump. Yes there is a line from the CP3 to the fuel rail by the injectors but any line after the CP3 and before the injectors is under extremely high pressure such that any leak would be spraying fuel all over the place. The line from the back of the fuel rail to the tank is a low pressure fuel return line and would not cause your symptoms.

In any case the line from the tank to the fuel filter head is nothing special and I would not waste $s and time looking for a Mopar/OEM replacement. Drop the tank; cut out the supply line quick disconnects; and run a new line. That new line can be any suitable size solid line bent to shape such as http://www.amazon.com/Allstar-ALL48328- ... B006K8MC34 or an appropriate length of marine grade diesel rated fuel supply line (FYI you will need a little of the latter to attach each end of a solid line plus appropriate clamps).

All of the above, plus replace your '05 leaky fuel manager head with the upgraded non-leaky version
- the upgrade kit is 68043089AA

Hey!

Thanks for the replies, guys. Just spoke to my mechanic as well as my car geek buddy, and seems like everyone is sort of in agreement, basic problem is that I didn't clarify as well as I should have.

(Note: I've had the fuel head replaced with the 2nd gen in the past, and that is not leaking. )

It actually is some small holes in the physical line, most likely the result of living on an island 1/2 block from the bay and 2 blocks from the beach in New England for past few years - so extreme salt from environment + chemicals from road de-icing has damaged line). There probably also are a couple little leaks at couplings due to previous tank replacement when someone put gas (i.e. - not diesel) in my engine. End result is that it is actually sucking air, which replaces fuel, resulting in fuel starvation, and this is what I referred to as "leaks". (And I am talking about the entirety of the line from the tank to the intake itself, including all the various connections along the way.) He could replace the various parts of that line with the standard metal and flexible tubing you suggested - its just that the whole thing has basically started to "rot through" with tiny holes here and there - and at this point it would be a whole lot of time for him to reconstruct the entire thing from scratch. Which was why we were looking for a remade assembly in this case.

Fortunately, my mechanic *thinks* he's got the needed replacement on it's way - we'll see if its the right thing when it arrives tomorrow. And hopefully, that will be the last of the "leaks". (He's already chased down the other issues.)

And yeah, I know the "tiny holes" is not the standard thing to leak, but for some reason, I have wonky carma (pun intended). I did tech support for years, and I always had the weirdest problems come my way that no one had ever seen, and it seems to be the same with cars for me - fortunately, my mechanic in NH is a most amazing Jeep (and engine/car in general) geek.

'Nuther source is the spark-infested KJ
- install
- cut the end off near the filter head
- clamp the required rubber hose onto the plastic line

Also, need to build your sig and keep it updated
