If your developing something great! But if you think something is the ultimate just because your doing it and that there couldn't possibly be any problems, it's time for a reality check.

Ok I'm done - carry on - best of luck and all that.

Alright guys, stop working on your cars, your not a certified mechanic.... Don't change your oil, your not a certified mechanic.

Sounds like this http://www.autoblog.com/2015/04/20/automakers-gearheads-car-repairs/

Totally different! It's the making something for your own use verses marketing it to the public before a prototype is even completed or tested.

If you've got a problem with me, feel free to call me out

If you've got a problem with the structural integrity of a dana 30, go complain elsewhere. I didn't design the dana 30.

If you've got an issue with the welds, that haven't been made yet, and by whom you have no idea who would actually weld them, go get somebody else to weld it. Oh ya that's right... That was the plan all along.

If you've got an issue with the design, rest assured my family employ's 18 certified ford mechanics. So if I have a question, the mechanical answer is right there.

And if you still have doubts.. Don't bother clicking this link again.

And first and foremost... I was doing this project for myself, and offered to make pieces for others. Not to make a profit and not to be grandiose or macho in any way. I even offered to share 50% of the 20 bucks profit with lost. But it seems I need to get dragged into a vendorship in order to at least offer YOU people some of my home made pieces.

You don't want them, cause they're not certified or proven or put together by JBA.. No problem. I'll save my money.

Toodles.

This is a great example of what kills what could otherwise be a useful forum.

This whole thread has been nothing but a few people trying to drag you down. My suggestion would be to repost in the Fabrication section, and you'd probably have a much better reception amongst people who actually design and build things from scratch, versus those who pay others to bolt off-the-shelf stuff on.

Brother (or sister),

Your probably right. Fabrication is the better place to post stuff like this. And from now on, perhaps that's where I shall post.

There is still the looming issue of becoming a vendor. Heather wants me to become a vendor even if I am just "probing" or "feeling out" stuff.

Vendorship is pretty expensive.

Presently I am trying to work out what parts I need for my (personal) kit to keep it as wallet friendly as possible, while still main ting the possibility of making parts for others, if I make parts for others, I have to have a vendor membership. For "vendor alley", which doesn't exist.

I'm SO LOST... Lol! Get it, Soutern Ontario LOST rofl. The bullpoop and politics is enough to drive anyone mad!

X2 on the politics and drama.

I can always just post exact measurements for all the pieces involved and people can build their own kits for free.

There isn't a fortune to made anyways. And for something so simple I don't and can't comprehend taking your guys' money.

Don't think anyone is trying to drag anyone down, BUT when you are creating new things most times you get some ideas together in your head, get something fabbed up and then see what everyones thoughts are and if its going to work .
We've been working on something here at my place for a few months, well more than one thing really, but until it meets what I call good enough to be released to the GP then its staying under wraps except for the folks that come by my garage and see them
Guess maybe I'm different, I make a plan, build it, test it, and then see how it flys instead of asking others
Nothing against you Whitby you need the backing of others

BY THE WAY we're not JK owners , we are KJ owners so we don't have a lot of bolt ons, we build our junk

What do you mean Vendor Alley doesn't exist ? Vendors listed in there, so ???
For example :
Currently the following vendors have paid for an advertising package with LOSTJEEPS.com and are authorized to use this section. Please help support these vendors with your purchases as these vendors are paying to support LostJeeps.com.

1) All J Products - Big Bear's Jeep & 4x4 Shop (thru 2020)

If you are building and possibly selling " kits" or other things for KJs and KKs on LOST do you not want to support them?
Thats the only way this site has stayed going without a bunch of stupid ads everywhere popping up everywhere its what makes this site unique I think

Why would or should he waste the time to develop something without knowing what the potential market is? He needs to be a vendor BEFORE having a product to sell? Everyone has their panties in a wad over something that doesn't even exist.

BTW, I have no affiliation with the OP, and have zero need for the product he's thinking about. That said, if he's serious about building something like this, the forum appears to be doing all it can to stifle his creativity and willingness to share info and ideas with us. THAT is the kind of stuff that kills forums; I've seen it many times.

Thats where being on the forums, doing lots of reading, listening and knowing what issues everyone looks at comes into play. I've been on the various KJ forums for over 10 years, know what issues there are, have helped solve some and continually working on others. I guess I should of worded it a little differently , I know things I help develop have a real need so develop / extensive testing to make sure and then throw it out to the wolves
There are ways to develop something and then there are ways to start a meaningful thought provoking discussion on what issues there are and then work on resolving those if you don't know

I think most everyone is just trying to make sure he is on the right page/ if he wants one build his, test it and then see what goes from there
If what you are saying is true about forums, then PIRATE should of been dead about 12 years ago and some others as well :ROTFL:

I think the issue is:

I KNOW I can do it for myself.

But do you guys want a super simple set for yourselves? <~~~~

I shouldn't have to be a vendor to ask that question.

JBA alreadly sells that same "end" product.

But for the DIYers out there, I ask you. Is this something that interests you?

Or am I in fact wasting my time? Should I just post my measurements?

In the works for the future are push button sway bar disconnect, bolt on Exo tube doors, hood mounted hot air extraction fan with push button louvers, push button smoke veil system like mbsdg's (anti zombie fantasy lol), custom centre consoles, super drop upper a arms, custom coil over brackets, super modular tri fold roof mounted camper rack. These are just random ideas I have all the time. I don't have time to make all of this crap on a grand scale.

But it's like I told john 3:17.. It's easier to make ten at once then it is to make one here and there. But I am thinking I should just stay on the "freeware" side of the house. I don't want your guys' money nor do I need it

My take on any " do it yourself" kit no matter if it is a Picnic Table or a Cobra kit car.
A lot of people " think" they have the knowledge / experience and time to make whatever it is, but I'd say 85-90% never finish
Personally I know of a Cobra that still in the packing crate, been there 10 years, also 2 brand new dune buggys that were bought back in the 80s plus a Lambo kit for a Fiero.
All of theses people bought them thinking they could build them and they still sit there.
Same as with the Jeep crowd, there are those who yes can weld ( I consider myself a "good " welder but would never tackle welding say anything like that diff due to I want perfect welds and know its done by a certified welder ) So while it maybe a great idea how many have the real resources to build it, honestly. Sure once you mount everything up there its ready to build/weld. But how many could get to that point?
I just got a call today from Kentucky from a guy who wants me to lift his KJ. He's coming 250 miles to get his lift done due to he doesn't have the tools or experience.
So how many will be willing to take theirs somewhere, have some one remove their diff , replace it and weld up everything etc.
Now in no way am I trying to stop you or anything like that, just looking at what I've seen happen over the last 40 plus years of playing with trucks, cars, 4X4s etc and how a large percentage of folks are
Your ideas are the same as lots of others have had , you though have the time and opportunity to go a step farther than most do
So keep dreaming, tearing apart, trying new things
I do, tried something new today, after measuring last night every angle I could, I think it will work, stay tuned in a month or so when its done and tested
See I like to play poker and never show my hand until its time :ROTFL:

I, for one, think that WhitbyKJ has some awesome ideas, and has enough knowledge, skill, and time to make them work...That's how progress is made...He made the WJ boomerang / upper arm work under his KJ...I've looked at the same one, measured a stock WJ upper arm, and spent considerable time under my KJ thinking "There IS a way!" I love working on my KJ, my other Jeep, my motorcycles, etc...the more I work on them; whether it's just maintaining them, or modifying (I do a lot of that!) , the better I get.... Knowledge plus application equals skill... He's trying to come up with something that some of could use, at a more user friendly price...It could be a more friendly user price, because more of the work has to performed by the end user...Don't feel confident in your welding ability to make it safe? Don't weld it yourself....Would I feel safe welding it myself? No. Do I know someone who could? Yes...It's as simple as that. Whitby I applaud you...I've been following this...Keep on building...

Thanks for the support guys!

I'll be the first to admit, I don't have a large throat band saw here, mines only 4 inches tall. So I took the whole axle down to the shops where I buy my metal. They have a couple big band saws. They charged me $4 dollars to cut the axle from a full width to the kj sized stub axle.

Then I got $17 dollars worth of tubing and round stock, which they punched the holes in to use as a puller to get the drivers side axle stub out of the diff.

Then I bought a piece of 2.5 inch 1/8 wall for a dollar, it gets pressed back in where the stub came out, again, using my $17 contraption. This piece holds the drivers side axle seal.

Currently working on the passenger side, determining where to put the bear/seal holder and what it should look like.

Alternatively I could always drill out the plug welds and remove the axle tube, and make the correct one, but that totally steps outside the scope of the average joe.

My plan is to provide exact measurements so that it keeps machining to a minimum and the fabrication relies heavily only on the usage of crude machinery. (Saws, pullers, etc)

My apologies I don't know how I missed this.

Vendor alley was cleared out and emptied.

When I was approached to sign up to become a vendor it wasn't up.

You even posted somewhere in the beginning of May to the effect that it was closed and would be reopening soon.

My apologies for not seeing that it had reopened last week.

Again, still on the fence about the whole vendorship. I offered to selly products and cut lost in for 50%, but the response I got was that the managers didn't have time for that. I do wish to support lost but I'm still wobbling about a vendorship given the whole liability thing from the other thread.

I see that at the helm is advertising a no liability statement on his ads, perhaps I should do the same.

Further to the above

I haven't made a red cent from lost.

I have however taken quite a few hits on the chin, but that's okay, I got a big chin. :)

Update:

I apologize for the lack of activity here, but I have been working.

I went to the wreckers to pick up some much needed supplies to continue my project. I am currently formulating the lexan "jig". This jig will be used to appropriate place all of the brackery prior to welding. Simply bolt the lexan jig where the diff cover goes, match up the pieces and weld.

I am trying to use as much disposable plastic as I can for measuring guides. So when you get a kit, your pieces and cuts will be precise everytime. Plastic is also light weight and will save shipping costs.
