Good afternoon,

I am trying to find pictures of the KK interior with the headliner and/or overhead console removed. One of my next projects (hopefully) is to build a custom overhead console that can house some extra gauges, switches and a CB. I know that the standard dome light ("console") is only held by a clip. I'd like to know if there is a chance of installing some self tapping screws somewhere (crossmember?) or if I am forced to utilize the standard clip (this would limit the overall length of the console I'd like to build).

Any pictures or information are greatly appreciated. Google was unfortunately no help - every picture I find is either for the original Cherokee or the Wranglers (roll cage mount).

There are a few cross beams up there, you can see one of them through the hole for the dome light. I'm not sure if there's anything good enough further back.

Found this for the Rear Seat Entertainment system installation. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

Look at 11, 12, and 13.

Thank you both! This is good information.

@Scar0, just want your thoughts on this to confirm I am "reading" the PDF correctly. For the reach entertainment system, it appears that you would install a bracket that spans between two cross members. This bracket would be screwed into the cross members. Thus, using them to structurally support an overhead console should work.

Does my interpretation make sense, or am I completely off?

From the PDF it looks like the e-center support bracket spans 2 roof cross members. 1 behind the "A" pillars and another just behind the front seats ("B" pillar area). If you do not have a sunroof, you should be able to use these to do what you are wanting. The problem you will have to figure out is dealing with the contour of the headliner.
Here is another thread posted here a while back with drawings from the SM. This one is about the sunroof, but you can see the cross member in it.
