Anyone ever change the power steering hoses on a 03. I can't find any write ups or photos. Do I need to remove the pulley? Thanks.

Can't say about an '03, but for the '06 it looks like you leave the pulley on, even when removing the pump:

1. Siphon out as much power steering fluid as possible.
2. Remove the serpentine drive belt (Refer to 7 -
COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS -
REMOVAL).
3. Remove the power steering high pressure hose at
the pump.
4. Remove the return hose at the pump.
5. Remove the three bolts (1) securing the pump to
the engine thru the holes in the pulley (3).
6. Remove the pump from the vehicle.

Remember: reply poster drives a diesel. Your system may be different.

The instructions are from the '06 manual, for the 3.7 engine. I just copied the entire block of text.

You can stop at steps 3 and 4.

Shouldn't have to proceed to steps 5 or 6.

But it shows that you do NOT need to remove the pulley for the '06 gas motor when just disconnecting the hoses from the pump. Pobably not too different for the '03.

I don't know if you got this fixed or not. The first thing I had to fix on my 04 kj 3.7 was the high pressure line.

Leave the pump on, drain the fluid.

Remove the grill, remove the head light panel assembly. Replace the hose.

Reassemble.

There are two ways to bleed to ps system. With vacuum using a rubber stopper and a hose hooked up to your vaccuum cleaner (lol just kidding, hf sells a kit, it's a suction style gun with over flow reservoir) or by turning the wherls back and forth.

Either way, jack up the front end so both wheels are off the ground and then turn the wheels back and forth while applying vacuum or with the engine running and pump turning. When the whining noise goes away, your done.. Oh and don't run the pump dry.

Just going to add; Sometimes fluid will get foamy during the procedure WKJ suggested. If you stop, shut off engine, catch up on new posts here (gives the foam time to disperse) then go back and top off system the whine will be gone.
