Does anyone have a regular wiring diagram for an 05 CRD? You know, one like every other car maker uses! One where you can find a plug, and follow all the wires from that plug to everywhere they go on one or two fold out pages........ I got a major wiring problem that is driving me crazy! I'm about to go NUCKING FUTS with these wiring diagrams from the downloaded manual....

I've been using the 06 manual to help with my electrical problems.
It seems more complete than the 05 manual but it does not have a big pull-out wiring diagram.
At best, all you get are small segments related to a specific circuit.

This is the fun part of doing a complete engine swap :P
I am assuming that you have ALL of the modules and wiring harness necessary to make it work.
In theory, if you started with a complete 05-06 CRD and did a direct swap of its engine, transmission, control modules, wiring harness, and all the other stuff, it should work.
In practice, however... :roll:

Maybe if you post your specific problems we can help.
Few people have done what you are doing.

Yeah Doug, Flash and some of these other guys love this stuff. I'd tell them about the wacky symptoms you're getting. They might know right where to look.

I actually thought the factory wiring diagrams were fairly well done, once you read the introduction and learn to speak "wiring-ese" and understand their coding. There's so much going on in modern car electrical systems that "simple" wiring diagrams are impossible.

So I guess I'll fill you in on what I've done. I have a 02 liberty with a bad transmission, and blown motor.... I bought a wrecked 05 CRD with only 64K on the odometer.

The Plan...... 05 CRD + 02 3.7 = 02 CRD
Basically strip everything I can from the 05 CRD and Install evertyhing in the 02 3.7 Body... I mean it sould be possible... they have the same body.. Should be possible.

What I have done.
Modified 02 front motor cradle to git the CRD Mounts.
Modified transmission crossmember.
Installed CRD motor and transmission.
Swaped ALL wiring. Every bit of electrical wiring has been swaped over. ALL of it...
Swaped Heater core.
Swaped Guages.
Swaped Axles.
I kept the 02 interior

What I didn't do....
I didn't swap the ABS system.
With keeping the 02 interior I didn't swap the power seats.

What I've done extra. (upgrades and add-ons)
EGR Delete
Exhaust system
Dieselsite Wicked wheel
Euro TC
Electric fan
CXR Racing Intercooler
In tank fuel pump

Still need to do.
Tune....... Green Diesel Hot Tune, or Custom????

Where am I at now???.....
The motor starts and Runs, but there are a number of electrical problems...
1 - Front passenger window wont roll down or up.
2 - Both back windows roll down, but not up.
3 - All doors lock, but Back doors don't Unlock.
4 - Radio Turns on, But no sound.

One probelm from the CRD Wiring, Was that the wiring harness that crosses over from the drivers side to passenger side under the bumper, got pinched in the wreck, and about 6 wires got cut... I meticulously fixed these wires. Could this harness still be part of my problem? Possibly.

Using just a simple tester, I've determined that about 1/4 of the fuses un the under dash fuse box are not getting any power. I baught another known good fuse box from a buddy, and thats not the problem. I've also noticed that the battery cabel sparks when I attach them, and drain down if left connected.... So I know I have something grounding out..... I figure I'm going to have to start by OHM'ing out all the wires from the Under hood fuse box to the Under dash fuse box....

ANY other Suggestions...

All of those issues (I believe) relate to the BCM. I wonder if it's as simple as a bad ground for that module.

I presume that you swapped over all the electrical modules from the 05 CRD to the 02 body such as the BCM, TCM , ECM, FCM, SKIM Module, ABS Module etc. Early KJs had the remote locking module plugged onto the BCM...later KJs have the remote locking built into the BCM.

The locking mechanism on the tailgate is different I believe...maybe the locks on the doors are also different!
Check all grounds are in place.

That section of harness that was damaged in the accident could still be bad.....I had that harness damaged on my 2002 CRD and found about 6 wires that were either going to chassis or were going to some other random wire next to it!

So you would need to completely disconnect that harness from components on both side...including splices going off somewhere else so that the harness is "hanging" in mid-air. Then measure with an Ohm meter that none of the wires are showing any sort of resistance to chassis or to each other and each wire has continuity...should keep you busy for a while. :wink:

keep working with the wiring diagram and you will eventually get the hang of it. Takes time, but I now feel quite confident tracking the circuits. Too big a harness to have it all on one fold out sheet.

If that harness got mashed bad enough to sever wires you could have broken conductors inside of apparently good insulation. I've even seen wire "test" good, but wasn't solid enough to carry any amperage. That wouldn't relate to power windows and stereo though. The power windows could be as simple as switches that got coffee or diet soda dumped into them and now only make contact on 1 side. I'd verify the switches first, then test for voltage at the doors. The stereo problem...does it have the infinity system? possibly a blown fuse or missing circuit breaker for the amps in the doors? or maybe try a different head unit, perhaps that one has a blown amp?

Good call on not swapping the leather seats in yet. Get everything else ironed out first, then worry about the seats last. I couldn't believe what a chore it turned into. The way they wired the 2 seats together is absolutely ludicrous.

Doug, when we spoke the other day you said that the turn signal turned on from ??? something else being pushed?

Give us that one problem, and I bet someone on here can give you the pins to ohm if you're having trouble navigating the prints. Conversely, print those pages off and stop by and I should be able to show you how to read them. I just hate deal with prints on a computer.

I agree with Flash fully, and now that I've thought about it, I've dealt with a ton of pinched wires over the years that were just lightly pinched, which caused them to heat up and toast that section. Worst case you end up slicing in a piece one by one. Still a lot easier than replacing a new harness (even if it's 50 wires). But, I'd start by tracing the problems one by one, and then worry about so so wires after you get everything working. Otherwise you'll just want to shoot a hole in it and walk away :JEEPIN:

Oh, I'd also look into that BCM that Mike mentioned, I probably have one you can swap if they aren't VIN specific. But, then again, if there's a short in that harness, you might fry it. Didn't you say you have all the wires fanned out and not touching? Might be a good precaution if there's room...

I'm wondering if you should try the original 02 BCM. I know they do have to be programmed for the specific vehicle set up, bit there's some debate as to being VIN specific or not. On my 05 there are 3 different fuses that power it, and with just 1 being bad, it was doing all sorts of strange things.

Have you gotten good wiring diagrams? I found a library nearby has Mitchell mechanic grade books in their reference section to read. These have good diagnostic charts and electric diagrams. check for state resources too. In Michigan I can go online to www.mel.org (Michigan electronic library). There reference section online has a link to free Chiltons manuals and diagrams. P'm me and I can send you the PDF's for a couple of pages to see if they help.

So isn't the BCM attached to the inside fuse box? So I had the issue with the origional 05 CRD and the same issue with the one I got from Mountainman.... Now I did determin I have a ground wire not connected to my motor, so I'll get that attached and see what happens.

The other problem I had that I forgot to mention, was that the rear turn signals aren't working... But when I press on the Break pedal, the right turn signal light turns on in my dash.... Kinda weird....

Look at the noob guide I have posted a link to the manuals and wiring diagrams.

The OEM wiring diagrams are actually very easy to follow. Circuits are named with a letter based on what they are, and a number. You can search the pdf and follow a circuit wherever it needs to go.


Based off of what you said above, it does sound like ground issues, as some very weird things can happen with bad grounds.

One time when doing a dash pull on an XJ to fix an evap I decided to test things when it was partially back together but all plugged in. I spent hours or even days running around trying to solve some weird problems. I would hit the powerlock and the horn would flash, then the next minute the hazards would come on.

Turns out since I didn't have the dash complete reinstalled it was not grounding out properly. While I don't think this is your exact issue it does sound similar.

I know its been a while, but I am finally finding some time to work on this jeep again..... I solved the radio issue, the door lock issue, and the window issues. The one issue i am still having, is that the interior lights stay on. The only way they will turn off is if I disconnect the battery. Or remove the fuse that powers them, but that fuse also controls the door locks, windows, etc..... The display isn't showing any doors ajar. Any Ideas as to why they wont turn off? Also, could anyone tell me what kind of draw they have on their battery with nothing on? If I pull the bulbs out of my cabin lights I still show a parasidic drain of about 1.6 amps... The only way I can get it to drop is to pull the BCM fuse... Then it drops to about .09 to .10 amps.

Interior lights are controlled by a switch on the turn signal lever.
Could be a bad switch.

Maybe the switch on the steering column is bad, as it could be stuck in the full-on position. I imagine you know it has a lights on all of the time position? Just in case...

No.

The wiring diagrams in the FSM are really the best I have come across.

Need to know where circuit k35 goes? Just ctrl + F and see. Way better than trying to trace the lines out.
