Is there any hard data to support this re-gearing business? I just installed the 3.5 inch lift from JBA, and put on 32 inch tires. I actually ordered the 4.10 gears and install kits, but after having it torn down, the shop realized that the gears that were shipped to me were for the wrong rear end. So now I am out $350 for labor, and $120 for a rental car. I am back to driving my KK, and yes, it is a little sluggish, but just how much faster am I going to wear out a trans or engine??? And if all would have gone according to plan, and the 410's installed, how many rpm's would I be tacking up driving down the hwy???? This KK is mostly a mall crawler, located in a very flat area near sea level in Maryland.
Sorry to hijack the tread, just wondering if its really worth it.
Totally worth it IMO
I drove mine a week before I had the 4.10s installed after going to 32s, could not stand to drive it at all
Was living up Northwestern part of Ohio then where its like a pancake, but even slightest grade and it would downshift
Almost removed the tires, but after 4.10s power/ mileage / driveability back to almost normal
Doing another build now and will be going to 4.10s and 265-
70-16s this time, ( which will be even better )
I have always regeared all of my builds for over 40 years, while guys that didn't complained about power and mileage I just kept driving
Was always fun on road trips to start out at the back and as soon as we hit hills, they'd start going slower and slower and with no issues I'd cruise on by
These engines have a somewhat narrow power band, keeping it in that range doesn't work the engine or trans so hard
