I'm working on doing ball joints and getting things put back together. I'm noticing that when I put the spindle assembly in and get the upper control arm, lower ball joint and tie rod end put in I can no longer turn the axle freely. If if remove the the spindle the axle and bearing turn fine. Did I mess something up?

Which one is that? The intermediate shaft is the one that is splined to the bearing, correct?

Did you remove both front CV axles?
If so, they are different lengths, and maybe you got them mixed up.

I can turn the bearing foot a bit but then something seems to bind.

Are both front wheels off the ground?
Is the transfer case in 2wd or neutral?

The front wheel bearing/hub, when splined to the CV axle, and splined to the front differential, can be more difficult to turn by hand. But it should be just as difficult as before you took it apart.

Figured it out. Problem was actually the grease fitting on the lower ball joint rubbing the cv shaft. Took it out and put in a plug.Image
