Hi everyone,

New to this forum. I have had my 2002 Liberty since I drove it off the dealer lot. It's been a great little SUV. I have been chasing a weird harmonic noise in the front drive train for a while now. During this process I have put new upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, hubs and rotated and balanced all the tires. During all that I felt the CV axels for looseness or excessive play but didn't appear to see any. Well yesterday I found definate excessive play in the passenger side so I decided to replace both sides.

Well, I didn't anticipate the intermediate shaft would be stuck in the passenger side cv but still be excessively loose in the joint. So now it looks like I need a new intermediate shaft as well. Turns out other than ordering online it's a dealer item. Only place I haven't checked yet is NAPA.

So until I get an intermediate shaft I figured I would put the drivers side back together. I cant seem to get the cv axel to go all the way into the housing though. Anybody have any advise on how to get the shaft to seat all the way in to the housing or do I just have to beat it in? Thanks in advance for the help.

No on the beating it in
Just shove back in and then may have to turn it some to align the splines but that is about it.
Snap ring on the end has to pop back in but never is that hard
What CVs did you use?
Hopefully NAPA remanned and nothing from Faltazone etc

Thanks for the response. Got the drivers side into place. I Have the intermediate shaft on order from summit racing. I'm going to put a new bearing and seal on the passenger side at the end of the axel housing as well. Thanks again!

So I got the new CV Axels installed. I bought the replacements from Autozone and they are already making noise. I have a 2.5inch lift and I think they are not up to handling anything more than stock. Should have known. The passenger side is excessively loose and seemed to be not very tight on the intermediate shaft right from the beginning.

The only good thing is now the vibration at high speeds is gone. But they are going to have to be replaced again and this time I'm getting remanufactured ones from NAPA as recommended.

How tight should the connection between the intermediate shaft and the CV axel be? I assumed it would be a snug fit but not the case here??

Any insight would be most appreciated.
