Matt and Keith,

At what coolant temp does the VH currently turn off in your tunes? I am asking this because I believe my VH is turning off before my thermostat opens (192 deg Inhose assisting an operating stock, will change to the Hot Diesel Thermostat next TB service). I have nice heat, then suddenly, cold. Then, the heat comes on again a bit later. I was thinking in my retune, getting the VH off maybe 20 degrees hotter on the coolant. Does that sound like it would work a bit better?

Stock has the VH on up to 172 F, this leads to excessive VH running in the cooler months if the t-stat is failing. The GDE tune turns it off at around 155 F, this still produces ample heat. The VH turns off above 2250 rpm if I recollect correctly due to internal limitations. You might have a flow issue for it to blow cold intermittently. Seems like the coolant is not going through the heater core properly or an air pocket of some sort.

It only does it at one point in my commute. I am thinking my inhose thermostat just isn't opening yet to flow coolant to my water heater after my VH shuts down.

I haven't done any measurements, but I wonder if you couldn't just alter the resistance on the throttle position sensor. I don't know if the resistance rises with throttle or drops. If it rises, put a resister in series (SPDT switch). If it drops, put a resister in parallel with the TPS (SPST switch). Or use double pole switches and add an LED to remind you that it is on. Using a potentiometer you could tune where you want the high idle to be.

Wouldn't this cause the jeep to "jump" forward when is in gear? Or you mean to use it just when idling and no driving?

Greendiesel, is there any way you could fab up a manual high idle kit like was used on the 2nd gen Rams with the Cummins 24 valve, VP-44 pumped engines? They had a reostat and also a three cylinder high idle.

That would depend on how much you adjust the resistance. If you increase the idle 200 rpm by modifying the TPS signal, it could increase it that much throughout it's range. I personally wouldn't use it when driving, it wouldn't serve any purpose then. The only reason for a high idle is to speed up warmup time and to avoid having the engine cool off during extended idling. Many diesels, large and small, are unable to maintain their temperature at a normal idle. If you really wanted to be energetic you could tie it to your neutral lockout.

Emailed Gde on this yesterday, probably take a little bit for them to get back to me. Has anyone heard anything about this? Do other rigs that have an elevated idle have a viscous heater? I'd hate to have to put mine back in, the access to everything is just too good.

If the "this" you're referring to is the availability of the elevated idle option, I saw this post from a couple months back:

As far as the viscous heater, I don't think you'd have to put it back in, but you definitely wouldn't get the full benefit of the fast idle.
