Having read the article I would like to say it sounds like BS, disinformation or someone who has no idea what he is writing about.

Unlike the Grand Cherokee’s 3.0L CRD, however, Bluetec’s performance is contingent on the availability of low-sulfur diesel – which is scheduled to start flowing from U.S. refineries today (June 1).
I suppose they mean Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. As if the GC doesn't require ULSD.

All '07 diesels require ULSD.
Am I the only one who finds the following para's strange, they are talking about the same engine. They both have EGR's and the particulate traps that also requires ULSD. With urea injection they will pass '09 CARB if EPA ok's that part of the technology. The VM Motori has the same access to particlate traps and eurea injection and the same type of fuel injectors, it just has a heavier cast iron block. The thing that makes the MB engine special is it's aluminum block & heads and it may be a non rebuildable engine, unlike the the VM in the Liberty.

Though built by Mercedes-Benz, the Grand Cherokee’s new 215-hp CRD will not feature the tri-star brand’s revolutionary Bluetec emissions-reducing technology, which is scheduled to debut this fall for the Mercedes E-Class car line.
The ’07 Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec features a 210-hp, 3.0L V-6 direct-injection turbodiesel engine that reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by combining exhaust gas recirculation with components such as an oxidizing catalytic converter and a particulate filter.
About VW & CRD. VW is making the change from Pump Duse to CRD and decided to wait for '08 because of the ULSD fuel will not be nation wide till about first of the year in US because of the mixing of 500 ppm partial tanks with 15 ppm fill-up that will contaminate the 15 ppm fuel and may have fuel that is 200 ppm down to 30 ppm by second or third station storage refill. Same will happen for US Jeep only they will be '07 cars, unlike the VW's. Although I have heard the VW's will be '07.5 cars, but we won't know till they happen.

The move to end North American sales of the Liberty CRD comes hard on the heels of a similar decision by Volkswagen of America Inc., which confirms it will drop several diesel cars next year.
Absent from VW’s ’07 lineup will be diesel versions of its Golf, Jetta and Beetle models, a spokesman says.
But VW will continue to offer its Touareg cross/utility vehicle with a 5.0L V-10 diesel, as well as a special-edition ’06 diesel Jetta, which will carry over into next year. Like the ’07 Grand Cherokee, availability will be limited to 45 states.
And in 2008, a new diesel-powered Jetta featuring a 2.0L 4-cyl. TDI will arrive in U.S. showrooms.
Yes the '08 TDI will be in the showrooms in US about 6 months late, with particulate traps. The V10 VW Touareg is still not available in US, probably from poor first year sales due to $55,000 and up price range and 19 mpg highway rating.
