In anticipation of parts, I started to remove parts and take pics. I was born in the seventies and have stuck my hands in plenty of dark greasy places, what kind of witchcraft holds the egr tube to the intake tube? It feels like a clamp collar... But finding a tool to fit is more mysterious than the female ......

It's a v-band style clamp. Putting it back together will be worse, I suggest deleting the entire EGR system. Our intake elbow kit makes removal and installation of the glow plugs quite a bit easier.

Thanks guys, got the v clamp off and this one was 7mm. I will give cudos to the strong lil fella with tiny hands that mounted the brake booster bracket to the egr coolant line! What a sooty mess inside

What is the purpose for the viscous heater/pump?

Can i not just remove egr completely and blind off the exh/intake holes?
Sorry for all the questions just a dirty newb at the moment trying to absorb a ton of info

The viscous heater helps your coolant warm up and get your cabin heater warmed up quicker.
Mine is unplugged and bypassed but I havent figured ou a good way to completely delete it.

There are proably a dozen ways to disable, block, or delete the EGR valve.
Most folks just install the sasquatch stage 1 and 2 parts.

It is a shame that our CRDs are so choked up by EPA and California Pollution control regulations. these engines are just not meant to be so jacked up the way the Daimler Chrysler did. I feel sorry for the person who bought these jeeps and just wanted to drive them and did not understand the degree to which they were modified by DC to meet California regs.

Sir....you are in the right place with this board. I have done all the mods/upgrades out there, myself, and more. I love my little CRD but you one must have guts and skill to keep these puppies running well.

The Jeep Liberty CRD was never sold as new vehicle in California. It couldn't pass the Cali emission regulations at that time. The only way to register them in Cali was to get one with at least 8000 miles on it. Then it was OK.

Sorry to tear you boys away from the romance ... Just a quick question, do I need to remove the injectors? Or can I leave the in place and disconnect the fuel supply and return and lift manifold/ cover off?
I'll have a beer and check back ...

Edit, I see the rail won't clear firewall, get back to lovin

Yep....remove them, mark them to put back in same slot. Be gentle with them as they are very expensive. Use new crush washers. Remove all the fuel rail being careful not to break the return manifold since it is plastic.

yes injectors need to be removed and fuel rail , first now is the time to work slow and don't brake any parts. slowly remove parts. mark injectors locations 1,2,3, 4. be careful when removing electrical harness from sensors, when removing fuel injector jumper tubes hold adapter fittings 12mm wrench and then undo line 17mm wrench so injector adapter fitting does not come loose from injector body!and don't touch small return fuel line from plastic fuel block mounted on side just remove mounting bolt and leave it hanging.

She lives! Water pump, rockers, idlers....short of augmentation she got it! Had to shave the hair off my knuckles to get my hands into some places, primed and a little coaxing sputtered and started up with only a low coolant light. After I grab a bite, i'll install serpentine and accessories.

Road test tomorrow, only concern is a boost leak where the egr pipe meets intake, sounds great... but no way in h3ll can I hold the brake, throttle and run my hand around that Peiceosh!tgonnabreaksomethin clamp ... I thinking a fernco otta fix that, if its leaking, egr is blinded off so no issue there.

Many thanks to for the support! Great Forum

Darren

Had to pull the battery tray to get good access to the egr tube clamp, she runs great, pulls strong and I can hear the turbo faintly. I will let her shiver outside overnight and see how she reacts to -14c without being plugged in.

Thanks for the help guys!
