2002 V6 LTD, 4WD, auto., 166,000 miles, mostly trouble free.

Cold outside. Started it up the other day. Everything was fine, except I had no turn signals or electric windows, or radio, or heater. Did have door locks and (I think) headlights. Found no blown fuses, either in the cabin or in that covered box behind the radiator. Nothing obviously loose.

Next time I started it up, everything was back.

A few days later, it happened again.

For the last few days it has been fine.

Ideas?

X2. Check the battery posts and grounds for corrosion too.

Thanks for the responses, guys!

The battery is decent, in terms of charge. It does keep building up corrosion on the + terminal, which I pull the battery and clean off from time to time.

My question is, of I have a poor battery connection, wouldn't that affect everything? In my issue, Some things work and other things don't. :banghead:

Thanks for the pointer. Pardon my vast ignorance, but is he an electrical guy, or something?

Billwill is definitely the electronic guru. I think I remember the BCM being very sensitive to low voltage. When my battery would crud up I'd get all sorts or weird lights gauge and chime symptoms. The first time it happened I remember driving in traffic (in the dark) on a very busy highway during rush hour and all the interior light shut off for several seconds. Headlights were okay and the engine didn't miss a beat. Then when the lights returned all the gauges were bouncing all over for a few more seconds and then went to "zero". Dash lit up like a Christmas tree and then all was normal. Checked battery and terminals were crusty. Cleaned them and okay for a few weeks then crusty and flaky again. Battery tested okay. Finally just replaced the battery. It's been 3-4 years now and no issues, but also no crud.

So, after cleaning the terminals, that problem never happened again!

But now... Battery light came on, on the way home. Bringing up the RPMs in neutral to 4k did not make it go out. Am showing 13.6-7 on my volt meter across the battery terminals with the engine running. I would not expect that high a voltage if it were not charging, would I?

Vehicle has been starting fine, not sluggish.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like you have a battery going bad, its outgassing causing the terminals to corrode faster
I would have the battery checked good right away , if its older I'd be replacing it

Did just that yesterday. Battery was 7 years old, as it turns out, so it needed to go anyway. I won't miss the ongoing fuzzy corrosion issue.
