There is a switch on the transfer case that controls the indicator light.
It's common for that switch to fall out of sync.
You can try moving the lever through all positions to see if it will go back in sync.
Otherwise will will have to replace the switch.

Scroll down in this post (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=59788) to see discussion of console removal on am 04 which should be the same as 05/06. I think the PN for the switch is 5083138AA

I put my crd into 4lo and the tranny into reverse and drove backwards for about 500 feet.

No more part time light on now. It changes normally now (ie lights up part time when in part time 4x4, goes out when in 2wd , etc

Too bad. It's worth trying , saved me a big $$ amount .

Maybe pull the switch and clean it, and the switch plug contacts before buying a new one.

FWIW, as I understand it the plunger on that switch is very finicky, and does not have much of a travel distance between 2WD and 4Lo. Cleaning it might have an effect, if the switch has not failed entirely. I actually have to do the same thing on my jeep, because the switch just got stuck a day or two ago.
