Seems to me that after upgrading the fuel head, people still have to tweak the tank connections or replace them outright. And some still get air in fuel.

So why not draw the fuel from the side or bottom of the tank using a sump kit?

Seems it would eliminate the the crappy plastic fittings , replacing them with AN metal fittings and also sucking in pure fuel and not air.....esp if one had a single AN fitting hose run from the sump directly to the filter, terminated with another AN fitting. That's only TWO connections compared to the 500 or so :D points of air entry on the stock setup.......

Thoughts?.

The factory connections used were originally designed for use with pressure, putting a vacuum on them causes them to leak. Installing an in tank lift pump from a cummins fixes all of that.

With a sump the cp3 is still pulling all its own fuel unless you add an inline pump. But at that point your costs are above the in-tank pump. Just put an in-tank pump in and be done with it, thats what i did 50k miles ago and not one single issue since.

X2 what diesel guy stated; adding an in-tank fuel pump is the simplest and most cost efficient mod you can do to stop and ensure no future air infusion into fuel will happen on your CRD...
It puts the entire system under low positive pressure and ANY leak will become self evident very quickly. Also, the factory fuel lines O ring fittings are designed to seal under pressure, not vacuum, and do a good job on a pressurized system so no need to replace them if installing an in-tank lift pump...
Many on this forum have performed the in-tank mod and some have reported that their motor idles smoother and performs better with the in-tank pump including myself... 8)
