Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have a 2010 Jeep Liberty with the 3.7l V6. The Jeep has about 90,000 miles on it, and the oil is changed every 4,000 miles or so. The engine seems to burn a quart of oil every 1500 miles with normal driving. Recently, I went on a camping trip and used the Jeep to pull the camper, which weighs about 4,000 lbs. Needless to say, the engine was working harder than normal. I changed the oil right before I went on the trip, and made sure it was at the correct level. The oil has about 900 miles on it now, and when I checked the level last night, it was nearly 2 quarts low. There are no leaks, and there is never any smoke visible in the exhaust. I've never smelled burning oil either. The engine does have piston slap when it is cold at times. I've used 5W20, 5W30, and 10W30. The engine runs the smoothest on 10W30, but none of them seem to change the amount of consumption. Is this kind of oil consumption a common thing with these engines, or is this a sign of excessive internal wear? The engine has been great otherwise.
Thanks.
