So i have noticed as i pull out of parking spots at a low rate of speed my lib makes a wierd moaning noise, it only has 10,000 miles so i am concerned. I took my car to the dealership and they also heard the noise on two occasions so they believe its the transmission. I really am mad cuz i took my car in for a tune up ( tires and what not) and i have to leave it over night. Has any one else heard a wierd noise at the front of the car and if so do you know what causes it?

Usually in the morning or after not driving for a while the brakes tend to moan a little bit since they are "cold" but after a while the noise (moaning) should go away......Welcome to lost too by the way

I hear the same noise (I thinK) at least same type on my 02 Limted, with 72,000 miles. I really hope it is not the transmission - yet.

Is there a big difference between a Liberty tranny, and the tranny from a 96 Cherokee (not Grand)? That 96 I have has 145,000 miles, and nothing has ever been wrong - except ball joints when I purchased it at 65,000 miles.

I know when I turn the wheel to full lock, I hear a moan from the steering box. That does it on any car with power steering.
Maybe that is what you are hearing?

Why would it be the tranny? That sounds purty stupid to me. Since you are pulling into a parking place, and TURNING, i would bet its the power steering pump?!?!

Tell them you are going to drive your jeep and to call when the tech guy is in. Shops are so stupid.

I'd go with the "power steering pump" as well. As said, at full lock, all (well, all I've heard) vehicles will do that.

Here is a question, does it only happen on asphault and not on concrete? If so it is your tires making the noise, and nothing is wrong. it is just the tires gripping and slipping. I had that happen to me and I took it in and they explained it to me.
