I figured to this would be the best section for this thread, seeing as there wasn't a relevant section in the Trading Post. If I am incorrect in this assumption, I apologize and would ask if this thread could be moved to the proper location if possible.

Now for the fun stuff! Seeing as Rocklizard no longer makes bumpers and I cannot bring myself to buy an ARB because of how it looks, I figured I'd try an alternate route. I've contacted a few custom bumper fabrication companies, and I've found at least two so far who would be willing to do it. Just putting this out here to see if there would be any interest for a group buy for a first gen KJ Sundance bumper replica group buy. Currently talking with both of the shops, and I'll update this once I get pricing info.

Edit:

Pricing quote from first shop:
Quote:
I could price them based on quantity. If it is 2ea Price would be $3000 ea 3 ea $2000 4 or more $1200. It costs me $250 for linex so take that off the cost. so $3750 bare metal for 1ea. This would of course be at the same time for multiples.

Pricing quote from the second shop:
Quote:
To make a quick estimate I was factoring 10 hours at $65/hour, plus $200 in materials ($850 total) for each unit after the first one. The first one was estimated at $1800 so ten units would cost $9450, or an average of $945 each.

I figured I might add this in for those who aren't familiar with the Sundance bumper. I compiled most of the pictures of the bumper in question that I could find into a photobucket album.

Good luck, but I can see in your near future a message from Heather wanting some :2cents: to be a vender.

I also see your in nebraska, speaking from experience, shipping is gonna be ALOT. But I say that people should jump onto this. More bumpers made the cheaper they become!!! Where else can you get a KJ bumper thats not a ARB?

I wouldn't buy crap from rocklizard, hes the biggest crook of them all. Worst than Palmetto State Armory (which is pretty bad)

Both on my post here and over on Jeep KJ Country, I've seen a decent amount of interest for the bumper for second gen liberties. I'd assume that both of the shop's I've spoken with wouldn't have a problem doing the later gen sundance bumper either, but it might have to be a separate group buy due to how different they are. I'll have to talk to both shops and see whether or not they would be willing to combine it into one group buy. I'll put some images of the 05-07 KJ Sundance bumper below for reference. Keep in mind the bumper below is slightly modified (It didn't originally come with the winch & winch plate.)

Edit: I've been looking at pictures, and it looks like all it would take to fit the bumper to the second gen KJ is cutting off the turn signal pod and using the stock 05-07 turn signal. That being said, that would only hold true if the mounting process is the same, which I'm not necessarily sure of. Hopefully, someone that is more knowledgeable about this would be able to enlighten me on the subject.

Well, that's good to know about rocklizard, because I would have purchased a front and rear bumper from him, had he still made them. Both of the shop's I've been talking to are about 10-15 hours away from me, so I was just planning on driving my KJ up there and leaving it at the shop for them to mock up the bumper with. Possibly staying in town while they work on the bumper, depending on how long it would take. One of the shops quoted me a week, which seems slightly optimistic, but then again I'm not necessarily that in the know when it comes to timeframes stuff like that. I'm also currently trying to talk to a few shops near me to see if they would be interested in doing it.

This. Dude had my money for a roof rack for 9 months without so much as an email or phone call. I gave him multiple opportunities and was way to nice and still never got the rack. How he gets business is beyond me.

When your the ONLY person taking money for KJ bumpers, you can do whatever you want to do, including scamming people. Very unfortunate that we call the owner of Rocklizard a US Military Vertern. Its an disgrace to our country. :furious:

I might be interested in this as the sources of various bumpers has dropped to about 1...

I have a 2007 Libby so I'd have to be added to the group of "Add Ons"

I'd like to see how this develops a wee bit before throwing money into the pit.

I'm not to the bumper portion of my build yet, and I don't have a problem with the appearance of the ARB bumper, and the fact that ARB continues to make stuff for the Liberties, it kinda makes me want to be loyal as a customer,

However,

If these guys are coming in 20%+ below ARB's price, AND they are handmade here in USA... It's kind of a game changer. If this is still a possibility when I do get to that point, I'm on board.

Just a thought..
Have you checked if At The Helm is interested? He may not be, but even as a semi-hobbyist the guy's work looks fantastic, and he may do it as a way to pay for some of his new "shop toys". He's a bit further away, but ..?

If we could get a second gen bumper that looks like the pictures you posted, then I'd have to rescind my offer to think about joining this and say I'd happily jump on board. I like the look and the ARB just really isn't doing it for me. I'm ready to get one so now I just have to wait for something worthwhile to exist, or get a welder and a press brake and learn to make one myself. :|

I'd be in, depending on cost and shipping to Oregon. 2006 KJ.

This doesn't seem to be getting very far... bummer. Must be time to start looking at an ARB before I can't find those anymore either.
